Reminder: Spoken word performers sought

The Latino Heritage Club is seeking performers for the next Spoken Word Night on Thursday, Oct. 30, from 8 to 10 p.m. If you’re willing to perform a piece on the theme, please commit by emailing gfulhc@gmail.com by end of the day today (Wednesday). Completed pieces will be due Tuesday, Oct. 21.

Theme
In honor of Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, occurring on Nov. 1 & 2, the theme for the spoken word event will be “Life and Death.” In Mexican communities, Day of the Dead is a day to celebrate the life that our loved ones lived.

What does the theme mean to you? Have you had to say goodbye to a loved one? If so, how did you cope? How does your culture teach or not teach you to cope? Has your culture shaped your view on death to be a positive one — believing a loved one is resting in a better place?
