Library unveils Digital Commons

George Fox’s libraries have recently partnered with bepress to provide the services of Digital Commons, the leading hosted institutional repository (IR) software platform. A Digital Commons repository showcases the breadth of scholarship produced at an institution – everything from faculty papers, student scholarship and annual reports to open-access journals, conference proceedings, monographs, dissertations, and more.

Scholarly material and special collections in Digital Commons repositories are highly discoverable in Google, Google Scholar, and other search engines. The content is all the institution’s. As one example of success, Pacific University’s Digital Commons has experienced nearly 260,000 downloads of full-text documents in the last year.

Our library is just now in the process of establishing the IR, but we do have a small amount of content that can be accessed at digitalcommons.georgefox.edu. Please feel free to take a look. Additional work on this project will continue over the summer, and next fall we look forward to sharing and discussing more with faculty as well as recruiting content.
