Women’s basketball team opens NCAA tournament Friday

The university’s women’s basketball team, ranked No. 5 in national polls, will open the NCAA Division III Tournament with a home game against Louisiana College this Friday, March 5, at 7 p.m. in Wheeler Sports Center.

Louisiana College is making its first NCAA tournament appearance after going 24-2. George Fox (25-2) enters as the Northwest Conference champion after defeating Puget Sound 77-51 in the conference finals last weekend.

Also playing Friday in Wheeler will be Puget Sound (23-4) and the University of Redlands (22-5), who will meet in the other West Regional semifinal at 5 p.m. The winners of Friday’s games will play in the same gym at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 6, for the right to advance to the tournament’s Sweet 16.

Ticket prices for both evenings are $6 for adults and $3 for students, children, and seniors 55 and older. Children age 2 and under are free. Tickets may be purchased in advance beginning Wednesday at the George Fox athletics department office in Wheeler. Northwest Conference and other passes are not valid for NCAA tournament games.
