Certain tomato varieties pulled from Bon Appetit’s menu
In response to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s announcement that a recent salmonella outbreak has been linked to the consumption of certain varieties of raw tomatoes, and products containing those varieties of raw tomatoes, Bon Appetit is removing the tomato varieties of concern from its menus and recipes until further notice. This includes sliced tomatoes on burgers served in the Bruin Den.
The FDA is advising consumers not to eat the tomato varieties of concern, including raw red plum, red Roma, and round red tomatoes.
According to the FDA, all other tomato varieties are safe, including cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes, and tomatoes sold with the vine still attached. Tomatoes grown at home are also reported to be safe.
We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.
