University’s IJM chapter hosts fund-raiser April 8-10

The university’s International Justice Mission chapter is hosting a fund-raiser April 8-10, in the Student Union Building during lunch (11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.). University hosts concerts in Bauman Auditorium April 7-8

The university will host a Chamber Concert, featuring performances by many of our chamber ensembles including the Flute Ensemble, Handbell Ringers, Trumpet Quartet, Clarinet Quartet, Keyboard Ensemble, Early Music Ensemble, and Women’s Chorale, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 7, in Bauman Auditorium. There is no admission charge, and doors open at 7 p.m.

The following evening, April 8, the Chehalem Symphony Orchestra will perform a free concert at 7:30 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium. The symphony consists of George Fox University students, faculty, and residents of the greater Portland area. Pieces performed will include Capriccio Espagnol Op. 34 by Nicholas Rimsky-Korsakov and Symphony No. 3 in C Major by Jean Sibelius.

The Jazz Dessert, originally scheduled for April 15, has been canceled.

Faculty sharing discusses evaluations Friday

You are invited to faculty sharing from 10:40 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 4, in Hoover 105. The topic of discussion will be “Faculty Evaluations: What and How.” Since the method and content of evaluations are in the process of being changed, the Faculty Council thought it would be good to have an opportunity to discuss some of the many variables involved in evaluations. Please join the discussion. Refreshments will be served.

Do you know American Sign Language (ASL)?

The Disability Services Office is trying to identify students who are fluent in ASL who might be willing to serve as a resource when we have deaf or hard of hearing students on campus.  There may be opportunities (paid and volunteer) to put your signing ability to use.

Theatre performance in Portland honors life work of alum

A Portland musical theatre series, Staged!, will honor the life work of George Fox alumna Tera Bloodgood Ewert (’97) by adding one performance to its successful run of the musical Les Miserables.

The performance, scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, April 14, at the World Trade Center Theatre in Portland, will benefit the Gulu Rehabilitation Center for Children of War in Uganda, West Africa — an outreach sponsored by World Vision, a charity Tera worked with before her death two years ago this spring. She had devoted her life to helping women and children around the world.

The show also has ties to Newberg and George Fox, with several alums and community members involved in the theatre company. Tickets for the show range from $21 to $25 and can be purchased at brownpapertickets.com. For more information, visit stagedpdx.org.

March time sheets, time-off reports due to HR

If you have not already done so, please submit your March time sheet (support staff) or time-off report (administrators) this week. Please be sure it is complete, accurate, and signed by both you and your supervisor before sending it to HR at Box 6108. If your supervisor is not available to sign it this week, please send a copy to HR and keep the original until it has been signed.

Mu Kappa Potluck – April 13 – 6 pm

Theatre department presents ‘As it is in Heaven’ this month

The university community is welcome to As it is in Heaven, the theatre department’s final play of the 2007-08 season.

Performances are scheduled April 10-12 and April 17-19 at 7:30 p.m. in Wood-Mar Auditorium. There is also one matinee performance, at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 13.

Synopsis: An 1830s Shaker community in Pleasant Hill, Ky., is set in its ordered ways until a newcomer, Fanny, see angels in the meadow. Soon all the young women are receiving spiritual “gifts” of songs, drawings, ideas, and giggles and completely upsetting the community. Are these gifts an honest resurgence of the original shaker celebration, or something manufactured by Fanny?

Employees receive one complimentary ticket, available for pick-up at the University Store. Students are welcome to see the show free of charge at the two Thursday performances and may pick up those tickets at the University Store. The cost is $10 for general admission, $8 for seniors and alumni, and $6 for students and children under 12. To purchase tickets or find out more, visit theatre.georgefox.edu.

Annual Fox Film Festival returns April 11-12

The annual Fox Film Festival is scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday, April 11, at the Cameo Theater in downtown Newberg, and at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 12, in Bauman Auditorium. The cost is $4 for Friday’s showing and free on Saturday.

Please join the cinema and media communication department as we celebrate and show off our year of hard work. Each night will feature different films and have a “People’s Choice” award. Saturday’s show will include a short awards ceremony. The filmmakers are going to dress up to celebrate our special event, and we invite you to join us.

Student Project Fund deadline is April 3

If you have any ideas for permanent additions to campus we’d love to hear them.

The ASC Student Project Fund was created to provide George Fox with those things that students desire most. Projects in the past have included the firing pit near Bauman, the pool table in the FoxHole, and the outdoor furniture you see in the quad.

FoxTale maintenance scheduled for April 2

Apple event celebrates CAC program April 4

The university will introduce its Apple-only Computers Across the Curriculum program with an “Apple on Campus” event from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 4, in the Klages Dining Room.

Learn how technology is shaping and being shaped by higher education. Also, enter to win an iPod Touch by swiping your ID card between 10:30 and 10:45 a.m. (you must be present at the drawing to win).
