University community invited to downtown Christmas event Dec. 11

President Robin and Ruth Baker cordially invite George Fox University friends and alumni to a traditional Christmas celebration from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the Pittock Mansion in Portland. The evening will include holiday music and festive hors d’ oeuvres and desserts. The cost is $21 per person.

Textbook Scholarship Contest

The George Fox University Store has proudly teamed up with the Used Textbook Association to help make textbooks more affordable. 

Now through December 21, 2007, students may go to the student section at www.usedtextbookassociation.org and register for a chance to win $500 for textbooks for the next term.  Ten $500 prizes will be awarded to qualifying students who are currently enrolled at a UTA-member college or university. 

Winners will be announced by December 31, 2007.

We now have our Buyback List online.  Find out what your books are worth by going to www.store.georgefox.edu, select Main Store, then Textbook Buyback at the bottom of the page.  Type in the ISBN number, located above the barcode on the textbook, and you will be shown the estimated value of your book. Check back daily for any additions to the Buyback list.

Mail courier leaving one hour earlier Friday

The courier to the Portland and Salem centers will be leaving one hour early Friday morning, Dec 7. Please have any items for the Portland or Salem centers routed to Mail Services by 8:45 a.m. on the Newberg campus.

Portland and Salem personnel, please have your items ready by 9:30 a.m. and 10:20 a.m., respectively. We apologize for any inconvenience; we will be back to the normal hours on Monday, Dec.10.

Campus Music Project hosts listening party, holiday sale

Those who worked on the Campus Music Project would like to invite you to a festive listening party from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, in the Bruin Den on the Newberg campus.

Come enjoy free hot chocolate and candy canes while listening to the Campus Music Project’s 2006-07 CD. There also will be contests.

For those who would like to purchase the CD, entitled Growing Roots, they are available for $5 each or $8 for a pair during a holiday sale. To purchase it before winter break, e-mail Jamie Griggs on or before Dec. 11 with your office location and quantity. The CD(s) will be delivered to you and you may pay by cash or check at that time.

The CD also is available in the Foxhole between 7 and 11 p.m. or at the University Store. The project is an annual compilation of original music written, recorded, and produced by George Fox students.

University Store hosts sale Dec. 10-15

‘Tis the season to do Christmas shopping at the University Store. Starting Monday, Dec. 10, save 20 percent on all George Fox imprinted items (except diploma frames), World of Good items, and Christmas products. Also, save 10 percent on all Burt’s Bees and Prestige products, as well as select earrings.

The sale ends Saturday, Dec. 15. Hours during finals week will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Saturday hours will be 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  and 3 to 4:30 p.m.

Faculty business meeting convenes Dec. 10

The last faculty business meeting of the fall semester is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Dec. 10. Portland Center and Boise Center faculty can join the meeting via video conferencing.

Newberg faculty will meet in Hoover 105.

Portland faculty will meet in Room 280.

Boise Center faculty will meet in the center’s conference room from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

All proposals to be discussed have already been distributed via e-mail.

Best Christian Workplaces survey closes Dec. 7

Ten! Ten! Ten! A ten-minute play festival! – December 5-8

The first set of 4 plays will be presented December 5 and December 7.
The second set of 5 plays will be presented on December 6 and December 8.

The provost survey will be distributed directly after her talk, and, due to the fact that the Provost Search Committee will be meeting at 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, the deadline to complete the survey will be 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7.

English Language Institute hosts ‘Happy Holidays 2007’ Dec. 6

The students and faculty of the English Language Institute invite you to join them for a holiday musical, “Happy Holidays 2007,” at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, in Hoover 105. The program celebrates holiday traditions throughout the year from China and the United States, as well as music from both countries. It will feature the Chinese zither, flute and piano, along with original compositions and sing-a-longs.

Seats still available for final holiday luncheon Dec. 7

Seats are still available for the final holiday luncheon to be served by the students of Family and Consumer Sciences this Friday, Dec. 7. The luncheon will include a chicken entree with seasonal accompaniments, soup or salad, beverage, and dessert. The cost is $8.

Lunch will be served from noon to 12:30 p.m. in Lemmons Room 4. Take-out orders also are available, so you may pick up several for dinner. Contact Helen Morse (Family and Consumer Sciences) at ext. 2640 between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for reservations and any dietary accommodations.

Engineering’s ‘Wobble Off’ set for Dec. 6

The campus community is welcome to enjoy engineering’s “Wobble Off” from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, in the Ron Gregory Atrium. The event is a demonstration of freshmen engineering students’ first project – a variety of oscillating steam/air-operated engines. The event highlights the students’ first year studies in engineering design, solid modeling, and machining, and showcases the creative and impressive results of their design/build projects.

The students’ engines will compete in a variety of categories, including maximum speed, minimum vibration, maximum coast, cost efficiency, and creativity/craftsmanship.
