George Fox women invited to ‘The Shack’ movie night this Sunday

Attention all George Fox women: Let’s join together for a movie night! We’re going to see The Shack this Sunday, March 5, at 6:30 p.m. at Sherwood’s Regal Cinemas. We will meet in the Stevens parking lot at 6 p.m. and carpool from there. Those who can will meet for yogurt and fellowship at Menchie’s afterwards.

Celebrate Women’s History Month at party March 10

Bon Appetit celebrates Black History Month with tomorrow’s dinner menu

February is Black History Month, and the Black Student Union has partnered with Bon Appetit to celebrate! The Bon will feature dishes inspired by different Black cultures every Tuesday during dinner for the month of February.

Tomorrow, we’ll feature an African-American cookout menu! This is also the last chance to enter a raffle to win prizes! Winners will be chosen at the end of the month.

Guest speaks on ‘Surviving and Thriving Through Deep Difference’ Thursday

The university community is invited to a special lecture, “Pluralism: Surviving and Thriving Through Deep Difference,” this Thursday, March 2, at 6:30 p.m. in Hoover 105.

Presenting the lecture will be John Inazu, the Sally D. Danforth Distinguished Professor of Law and Religion and Professor of Political Science at Washington University in St. Louis. He teaches criminal law, law and religion, and various First Amendment seminars. His scholarship focuses on the First Amendment freedoms of speech, assembly and religion, and related questions of legal and political theory.

Inazu is author of the books Liberty’s Refuge: The Forgotten Freedom of Assembly (2012) and Confident Pluralism: Surviving and Thriving Through Deep Difference (2016).

Need help charting your academic path? Attend a workshop, “Charting Your Academic Path: MyGFU, Course Selection & Effective Planning,” this Thursday, March 2, from 10:50 to 11:40 a.m. in Hoover 105.

Kristie DeHaven, a senior CAP Coach in the IDEA Center, will lead a discussion on how to use the degree audit, online catalog, class schedule and other resources. She will also discuss options if you are concerned about your midterm grades.

Learn to prepare healthy meals at ‘Nutrition Matters’ sessions

Interested in learning to prepare healthy breakfasts, soups, vegetable dishes and desserts? You are invited to a series of “Cooking 101” Nutrition Matters classes taught by Love and Plants’ Emily Forbes in the coming weeks. All are free!

Here is the schedule:

  • Whole Grain Breakfast – Come learn how to make whole grains first thing in the morning (7 p.m. Thursday, March 2, Canyon Commons 101)
  • Lentil Love – Learn to make lots of foods featuring lentils (8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, Canyon Commons 101)
  • Soup-sational – Learn how to make healthy soups (7 p.m. Thursday, March 16, Canyon Commons 101)
  • Glorious Greens – Learn how to make the most of healthy vegetables (7 p.m. Monday, March 20, Canyon Commons 101)
  • Delectable Desserts – Learn how to make the most healthy desserts (7 p.m. Thursday, March 23, Hoover 101)
