Art panel offers expertise tonight at Art Talk

Do you have questions about getting internships as an art student? Are you curious about what opportunities are out there? Come to Art Talk tonight (Monday) to dialogue with a panel featuring representatives from the IDEA Center along with some current art students in internships to hear some of your questions get answered.

We’ll meet at 6 p.m. in the ballroom at the Chehalem Cultural Center, 415 E. Sheridan St. Come early for a costume contest and refreshments in the spirit of Halloween!

Come to security office for your lost items this week

The lost and found is once again filled to the brim and will be emptied on Friday, Nov. 4, at 2 p.m. All items not reunited with their owners will be donated to charitable causes at that time, so please stop by the security office if you are missing items. If the item was lost before the first of October, it has already been donated and is no longer in the lost and found.

Questions? Call security at 503-554-2090, or stop by the security office during business hours. If we’ve already contacted you about a found item, please come and retrieve it before Friday!

All invited to School of Nursing’s Health Fair on Nov. 11

The School of Nursing is excited to announce our upcoming Health Fair! We will be in the EHS (Ron Gregory) Atrium from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11.

Come see what our nursing students have been learning in their Health Promotion class. Participate in their interactive displays and earn tickets for our great raffle prizes!

Everyone who comes will receive a gift from our generous sponsors: Bob’s Red Mill Natural Foods, The Moore Institute for Nutrition and Wellness Grant, and the Hazelnut Marketing Board.

Fall Carnival is tonight!

Fall Carnival is taking place tonight (Monday)!

There will be popcorn, cotton candy, henna, inflatable jousting, a costume contest at 9 p.m., a pie-eating contest at 9:30 p.m., carnival games and more! We’ll even have a mechanical bull! The fun begins at 8 p.m.

So dress up in your Halloween costume and come to Wheeler for a night of fun and get some awesome prizes and food! (No masks allowed … thanks).

Make plans to attend reception, organ concert on Nov. 13

As part of the university’s 125th anniversary celebration, Robin and Ruth Baker invite you to a celebration reception at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13. An Organ Hymn Festival Concert in Bauman Auditorium follows at 6 p.m. featuring Dan Miller, an internationally renowned organist and product manager at Rodgers Instruments Corporation.

Fall Justice Conference begins today

George Fox’s Center for Peace and Justice invites you to the Fall Justice Conference today (Monday) and tomorrow. Our theme this year is “Peace: Personal and Global.” Please join us as we hear from author and chief church engagement officer of Sojourners, Lisa Sharon Harper.

Lisa will share from her book, The Very Good Gospel: How Everything Wrong Can Be Made Right. Shalom is what God declared. It is what the kingdom of God looks like. It is when all people have enough, and families are healed. Come hear about what we can do to bring shalom to our nations, our communities and our souls!

A university- and community-wide event will be held tonight in EHS 102 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Treats provided! Lisa will also speak in chapel tomorrow from 10:50 to 11:40 a.m. in Bauman Auditorium. Her book will be available for purchase at both events.

‘Religious Pluralism in Indonesia’ discussed in LACI tonight

Join us for the next Liberal Arts and Critical Issues presentation of the semester tonight (Monday), when “Religious Pluralism in Indonesia” will be discussed in Hoover 105. The same presentation will be made from 5 to 6 p.m. and from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Dwight Burton, a political science instructor at George Fox, and Monik Kadarmanto, a LACI instructor, will explore the history and context of religious pluralism in Indonesia and emphasize the value personal relationship and experience bring to building bridges across culture and religion.

Clocks on campus are a few minutes off

The interconnected clocks on campus are having an issue, running four or five minutes late. This is due to a faulty time base which will be replaced later this week when parts come in.

Free Health and Wellness Screening Clinic for faculty and staff

The School of Physical Therapy will be offering its inaugural Health and Wellness Screening Clinic on Thursday, Nov. 17, from 2 to 7 p.m. in the Roberts Center, Room 202. This screening clinic utilizes innovative technology to assess one’s current state of health. Screenings are free and take about 30 minutes to complete. Click here to sign up for a screening.

We are now receiving applicants who desire to be a part of the Cultural Ambassadors Program! Applications are open from Oct. 31 through Nov. 11. Use this link to apply.

If you want to take part in tough conversations revolving around race, faith and diversity, then consider applying to become a Cultural Ambassador. This unique student leadership opportunity is open only for six to 10 students who are seeking to be culturally engaged and who have a desire to see change take place on their own campus.

The skills acquired through this intensive training are recognized as being indispensable in the workplace (of all fields). In addition to training with your peers on a weekly basis, students involved in the program will be attending the SCORR (Student Congress of Racial Reconciliation Conference) in February at Biola University.

Chapel credit available for students attending Quaker churches today

As Quaker Focus Week comes to an end, we are offering a chapel credit option to attend a local Quaker church this morning (Sunday). The four options are North Valley Friends Church, West Chehalem Friends, Newberg Friends Church, and 2nd Street Community Church.

After attending the service students need to fill out a chapel elective form on MyGFU. If they have any questions, they can email spirituallife@georgefox.edu.

Halloween swing dance is tonight

Hello everyone! The Coast to Coast Swing Club will host a Halloween costume swing dance tonight (Saturday) at 7 p.m. in Roberts Center 117. Our special guest instructor Jesse will be teaching blues and will also be the deejay for the evening with a themed play list.

Candy, apple cider and hot chocolate will be provided at the event. Please invite your friends and wear a costume; it will be a scream of a time!
