Update your vehicle registration now

Friday, May 25th, 2012

Staff and faculty: Now is a great time to check out and update your vehicle registration on MyGFU. Just log on and select “Self Service.” Next, choose “University Forms.” The Vehicle Registration link will open up in the middle of the page.

If the information is not correct, then hit the minus sign to the right of the listing and delete it. You can click on the “Add Additional Vehicle” tab to enter the correct information. List all the vehicles you usually drive to campus, as there is no limit.

If you regularly drive more than one vehicle to campus, security recommends purchasing an additional parking permit for $5 to avoid having to switch your permit from one car to another. Just bring $5 cash to the security office during office hours, and we can issue it on the spot. If your permit is in disrepair, bring it to the security office and we can issue you a new gratis permit. If you’ve misplaced your permit, it is only $5 to purchase a new one. Adhesive staff permits are also available for your motorcycle or scooter’s windshield.

Adjunct permits are issued on the calendar year, so if you are teaching this summer or fall and didn’t teach this past spring, please come to the security office to pick up a 2012 parking permit. Parking permits are also available for Portland Center employees who frequently come to the Newberg campus.

Please don’t hesitate to call ext. 2090 or e-mail Nadine Kincaid at nkincaid@georgefox.edu if you have questions about vehicle registration or parking that are not answered on the Web pages.

University hosts USTA Juniors Champs Tennis Tournament May 26-28

Thursday, May 24th, 2012

More than 180 of the top junior players from around the Pacific Northwest, including the No. 1-ranked player in the nation in the Boys’ 14 section, will visit Newberg this weekend as the university hosts the United States Tennis Association’s George Fox University Juniors Champs Tournament Saturday through Monday, May 26-28.

“This is our first time to host an event like this, and the response has been tremendous,” said George Fox coach Neal Ninteman. “The field just mushroomed, so we’ve had to engage additional courts at Newberg High School and Jacquith Park. We’re excited to have so many of the top junior tennis players from across the Northwest coming to Newberg, and we want to invite everyone in the community to come out and see some of the up-and-coming young stars in U.S. tennis.”

Highlighting the boys’ field is Henrik Wiersholm of Kirkland, Wash., ranked No. 1 in the nation in the Boys 14 age bracket. The highest-ranked girls’ player is Dasha Ivanova of Beaverton, Ore., who is No. 5 nationally in the Girls 14 age bracket. She is seeded second in the Girls 18 tournament, behind Erin Larner of Portland’s Jesuit High School, the Oregon 6A girls’ state champion. Also competing will be the Oregon 6A boys’ state champion, Goutham Sundaram of Portland’s Lincoln High School, who is the top seed in the Boys 16 tournament.

Matches will begin at 9 a.m. each day, with the finals scheduled for Monday afternoon. Brackets will include 12-, 14-, 16-, and 18-and-under tournaments for both boys and girls. Complete draws, match schedules, and eventual results can be found on line at the USTA tournament website.

Willing to be a performance review process focus group participant?

Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

Thanks to all of you who responded to the questionnaire/s in April about the performance review process. Both questionnaires (one for employees who received performance reviews and one for supervisors who gave performance reviews) are now closed. And to those of you who volunteered to participate in a focus group, we appreciate your willingness to do that.

As previously announced, Mark Pothoff and Andrea Byerley, both members of the performance review task force, are planning to meet with two small groups at the end of May for about 90 minutes each. One focus group will be made up of employees who have received performance reviews to discuss the results of that survey. A second, separate focus group for supervisors will also be convened to review and probe a little more deeply into the results of the supervisor questionnaire.

More people are needed to participate in these focus groups, so if you are interested and willing, would you please e-mail Andrea or Mark directly to let them know – and also please indicate which focus group you would like to participate in. (Exact date and time of meetings will be communicated to those who volunteer.)

Many thanks,
Lisa Burton, Andrea Byerley, Mark Pothoff, Peggy Kilburg
