Applications for 2012-13 ARC consultants now available

Do you love helping others uncover their potential? Do you like showing others ways to be a more effective and efficient student? Do your friends always come to you to look over their papers before they turn them in? Do you have a GPA above 3.0? If you answered yes to these questions, you might have a future as a consultant in the Academic Resource Center (ARC).

Do you have students who are strong writers, solid scholars, avid learners, and who love helping others uncover their potential? Please consider recommending them for a position as a consultant at the Academic Resource Center (ARC).

Each year, more than 500 students have more than 1,500 appointments with ARC consultants. Our consultants help struggling students improve their work and helping strong students get even stronger.

This month’s all-employee meeting rescheduled for March 15

The all-employee meeting originally scheduled for Thursday, March 22, is being moved to up to Thursday, March 15, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in Hoover 105.

Future all-employee meetings are scheduled on Thursday, April 5, again in Hoover 105, and on Thursday, April 19.

All women invited to brown-bag lunch with Elisa Morgan March 16

Attention all GFU women employees: You are cordially invited to attend the Women’s Leadership Development Institute’s fourth brown bag lunch on Friday, March 16, from noon to 1:15 p.m. in the Cap and Gown Room on the Newberg campus. This is for all women faculty, administrators and staff!

Elisa Morgan, president of Mission: Momentum and publisher of FullFill, and a former CEO and current president emerita of MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) International, will be our speaker.

About Elisa Morgan
For 20 years, Elisa served as CEO of MOPS. Under her leadership, MOPS grew from 350 to more than 4,000 groups throughout the U.S. and in 30 other countries, impacting more than 100,000 moms every year. Currently, Elisa is an activist with ONEMom.org, lending her voice and leadership to encourage women to advocate for women throughout the world who are victims of poverty and oppression.

Elisa’s mission is to mobilize women to invest their influence in God’s purposes. During the luncheon, Elisa will unpack what it means for women to “lead real.” Please don’t miss this opportunity to hear from a significant woman leader as she shares her leadership journey with the women of George Fox.

Join the undergraduate School of Business faculty for an International Business Institute (IBI) information session today (Thursday) from 5 to 6 p.m. in Hoover 210.

Have you ever considered studying business in Asia and Europe during a study-abroad experience? How would you like to visit the international operations of Mars Candy, IKEA, John Deere, Deutsche Bank, the World Trade Organization, the European Union, Nestle, Black and Decker and Shell Oil?

If so, you need to check out George Fox University’s School of Business-affiliated IBI program. Students earn 12 academic credits taking global business courses while traveling through approximately 13 countries in Europe and Asia for 10 weeks.

Choral groups, string ensemble perform free concert Friday

ARC workshop covers managing personal finances

Have you wondered what it would be like to have more freedom with your personal finances? Have you ever been stressed about your financial situation? If so, come find out what you need to know about money. You’ll be surprised how simple this process can be. This Academic Resource Center-sponsored workshop will provide information on a variety of personal finance topics, including budgeting, credit cards and student loans.

Backpack Project Collection Dates

Its time again to collect non-perishable food or make a financial donation toward bulk-food purchases for kids in need.

From March 5 to March 19, two collection sites will be provided; the first-floor lobby and upstairs atrium of the Portland Center. Donations can also be make by checks written to: Take Action, Inc.

All students, employees, and friends are encouraged to participate.

Take Action, Inc. works with 450 + students from 16 elementary schools in the Portland Metro area to ensure children from economically challenged homes have food to eat when they go home on the weekend. For more information on this organization, check-out their website at: takeactioninc.org

Below is a sample list of items that you can donate:

  • small jars of peanut butter and jelly
  • canned meats (beef, chicken, tuna)
  • non-perishable milk drinks
  • macaroni and cheese cups

  • canned vegetables
  • nuts and other healthy snacks

Remember to stop by the Benefit Fair in the Cap and Gown Room in the Student Union Building on Thursday, March 1, between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Your benefit providers will be there to answer your questions and explain what is new in 2012. If you don’t yet have electronic access to your benefit plans, come and see how easy it is to set that up! Bring your open enrollment form to turn in. Maybe you’ll win a raffle prize!

Addition to alcohol, drugs and tobacco policy for undergraduate students

Effective March 1, 2012, there will be an addition to the alcohol, drugs and tobacco policy for traditional undergraduate students. In response to some alcohol incidents, there may be a voluntary breathalyzer test offered to students.

Please see this link to the Student Handbook that outlines the policy, as well as the rationale for the change and FAQs. This communication is being distributed via e-mail and E-nnouncements to all traditional undergraduate students and serves as official notification of the policy change.

Professional Etiquette Dinner registration opens Monday

“Look Professional; Put on Etiquette” is the theme for this year’s Etiquette Dinner and Professional Fashion Show! This event is a guided etiquette experience for students in a dining setting. You will learn how to gracefully traverse the intricacies of eating a meal in a formal or business setting from an acclaimed etiquette consultant. We will also be featuring a networking session with table hosts who are working professionals and a fashion show for the professional dress review.
