Achilles tendinopathy participants needed for PT study

We are looking for individuals with an Achilles tendinopathy diagnosis or Achilles pain (in the middle of the tendon as opposed to heel) who are interested in improving their pain and function.

The study will involve a set workout routine, attending regular check-ups, and assessments of pain and function. The study will begin March 20, 2017.

Participants will receive monetary incentive for completing the 10-week program.

If you answered yes to either of these questions, then you may want to consider applying for the Leadership Development Initiative (LDI). The program welcomes both women and men who are current George Fox employees who desire to grow in their current role or seek to prepare themselves for future leadership roles.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2017-18 cohort and are due by May 1, 2017. For more information and to access the application, please fill out the Leadership Development Initiative Application.

Learn to cook healthy meals at classes tonight, tomorrow

Interested in learning to prepare healthy soups, vegetable dishes and desserts? You are invited to a series of “Cooking 101” Nutrition Matters classes taught by Love and Plants’ Emily Forbes in the coming weeks. All are free!

Here is the schedule:

  • Soup-sational – Learn how to make healthy soups (7 p.m. Thursday, March 16, Canyon Commons 101)

Get free bike maintenance done this Monday

Spring is coming soon, which means it’s time to knock off the rust and get some air in your tires. Bring your bike by the Engineering Innovation Center Maker Hub’s west door (facing the quad) between 5 and 7 p.m. this Monday, March 20, and have the Cycling Club help you get out riding again.

We’re offering free basic maintenance and servicing of your bike! You can also learn some basic maintenance tips yourself and get more information about up coming club rides and events.

Farewell party for Tiona Cage is this Friday

All George Fox employees are invited to wish Tiona Cage farewell at a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, March 17, in the International House.

Tiona has served as assistant director for international student and scholar services and as diversity and inclusion specialist for the last two years. She has impacted many on our campus, so please come by to say thank you and goodbye. Light refreshments will be served.

Calvin professor’s ‘Politics of Narnia’ lecture has been canceled

The Newberg-Dundee Police Department has reported an increase in car thefts and break-ins lately. Please be certain to lock your car and to take all of your personal belongings with you. Also, be sure not to leave anything in plain view in the car.

Jenny Elsey speaks in chapel this morning

Our very own Jenny Elsey is leading us in chapel this morning (Tuesday)! Join us at 10:50 a.m. in Bauman Auditorium.

Jenny joined the Office of Spiritual and Intercultural Life as the director of intercultural life last year. She came to George Fox from Azusa Pacific University, where she was director of mobilization in the Center for Student Action the previous two years. We are so excited to have her with us this morning!

Tomorrow night, we will be jumping back into the Psalms at 7 p.m. Vespers! Join us to hear more about Psalm 130.

Join a serve trip to Camp Attitude this spring break

Join a small group of students SpIL will be sending to serve at Camp Attitude, a unique faith-based program geared toward families in the disability community. We will be helping to complete different projects on the campgrounds and maintaining the various facilities for the special-needs kids.

The trip will travel to Foster, Oregon, the week of March 26-31. It will be a great opportunity to serve and grow as an individual.

Interested in being a volunteer firefighter?

Dundee Fire & Rescue has limited openings for George Fox students interested in volunteer firefighting. Day shift and overnight “sleeper” positions are available. All necessary training and protective equipment is provided. In 2016, DF&R responded to nearly 600 medical emergencies, car accidents, structure fires, and other public assistance calls.

Tickets for the Department of Art & Design’s fashion show are now available! This is the fashion program’s final show, as the major will be discontinued at the end of this year.

It would be our pleasure to see you in attendance on Friday, March 24, at the Chehalem Cultural Center (415 E. Sheridan St.)! Doors open at 6:30 p.m., the show begins at 7:30 p.m., and a dessert reception (catered by the Newberg Bakery) follows.
