Adam Puckett speaks tomorrow night at first Bruins LEAD event of semester

Bruins LEAD is starting back up again this week! This is open to anyone and everyone who wants to become a better leader. Snacks will be provided!

Sessions meet on five Tuesday nights from 8:40 to 9:40 p.m. in Hoover 105. Here is the schedule for the semester:

  • Sept. 5: Adam Puckett, director of athletics
  • Sept. 19: Natalie Turner, director of swimming
  • Oct. 3: Jim Bray, assistant softball coach
  • Oct. 17: Katie Mastropaolo, head women’s lacrosse coach

Need a new employee photo? Come to photo shoot Wednesday at Crisman Crossing

Attention Newberg campus employees: University photographer Sarah Small will be at the Crisman Crossing bridge for a scheduled photo shoot this Wednesday, Sept. 6, between 10 a.m. and noon.

If your employee photo on the university website is in need of updating, this is your chance to get it done! Not sure if you need a retake? If your existing photo is more than two years old, is poorly lit, is out of focus, and/or has a gray, brown or black background, it’s time for an update.

No appointment is necessary, and each photo subject will be done in only a minute or two. Solid, neutral clothing colors are recommended.

We are looking for ambitious, energetic and dedicated ladies and gentlemen trained in jazz and hip-hop. Dance team will be performing at basketball game halftimes, supporting George Fox athletics, and engaging with the community in a variety of ways. Come join us!

Commuters: Lockers are available for you on campus

Commuters: Did you know that we provide lockers for you to store your personal belongings in between classes? The lockers are located in the FoxHole, on the lower level of Klages Center.

Contact the Student Life Office by emailing studentlife@georgefox.edu to rent a locker this year. The cost is a $10 deposit and will be returned to you once you return your key.

Tips on staying safe in extreme heat

The forecast report states we are in for some hot weather over the several days. Please take a few minutes to read this information on staying safe during extreme heat.

  • Canyon Commons (south door entrance) and Klages Center (Student Union Building) have 24/7 card access for all students.
  • The Red Cross has several best practices for keeping safe and well during the heat.
  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
  • Wear loose-fitting, lightweight clothing. Avoid dark clothing.
  • Slow down, stay in the shade and avoid extended time in the sun.
  • If you must be in the sun, keep water with you.
  • Find a cool place to stay during the heat of the day.
  • For more information on what to do when temperatures rise, you may download the Red Cross Mobile App.
  • Recognize the signs of heat exhaustion: leg cramps, flushed skin, dizziness, fainting, headache, excessive sweating without physical exertion
  • Do not hesitate to contact 911 if you are experiencing heat-related symptoms.

Love a cappella singing? Come to Quakers and Notes audition Friday

Do you enjoy singing and want to be a part of an a cappella group here on campus? Come out and audition for Quakers and Notes! Auditions will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the choir room (Ross 208) on Friday, Sept. 8. Be prepared to sing 30 seconds of a song of your choice!

Don’t miss the first swing dance of the year tonight in FoxHole

The Swing Dance Club is hosting its first swing dance of the year tonight (Saturday). It will be in the FoxHole. The beginner lesson starts at 6:30 p.m., the intermediate lesson at 7 p.m., and the free dance at 7:30 p.m.

Come hear strings faculty perform tomorrow in Bauman Auditorium

Join us for an afternoon of chamber music with George Fox strings faculty! We will be playing works by J.S. Bach, Beethoven and Kodaly tomorrow (Sunday) at 3 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium.

Rebekah Hanson will be playing violin and viola, and Sonja Myklebust will perform on cello. The event is free of charge.
