The physical therapy department is looking for volunteers to participate in a lab session on the shoulder. If you have a problem with your shoulder or upper arm, our lab is the place to be! Our doctor of physical therapy second-year students, along with faculty members, will be performing examinations and giving you direction on how to take care of your condition.

Volunteers are needed for either a one- or two-hour session beginning at 12:30 p.m. and ending at 2:30 on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at the Roberts Center. Please email or call Linda Dallof at ldallof@georgefox.edu or 503-554-2451 to sign up.

Food! Games! Fun! Hello! The first meeting of Mu Kappa is happening this Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. at the International House!

Mu Kappa is a community for missionary kids or kids who have lived overseas. Our meetings consist of a relaxed time to hang out, eat food, play games, and just take a break with cool people! Everyone is welcome, and we would love to see you there.

Thank you for all the time, energy, heart and sweat you invested in Serve Day. What a success! We’ve been hearing stories about some of the ways God used this day and this community to spread a little grace and peace in our corner of the world. We’re so thankful.

More than 2,000 people were involved in Serve Day in various ways. We know that this means that more than 2,000 people saw different sides of Serve Day; we are eager to learn about these experiences. This Tuesday, two special agents from the FBI will be on campus to share about internship and job opportunities within their organization. Over the past few years a number of alumni from George Fox have been hired to work as field agents and administrators within the FBI.

The first tailgate of the football season is tomorrow (Saturday) in the quad! The first 150 students who come will get a free T-shirt! The nursing and social work departments are looking for volunteers to participate in our poverty simulation on Wednesday, Oct. 11, and Wednesday, Oct. 18, from 12:45 to 3 p.m. in Canyon Commons. We would be thrilled if you would join us for one or both dates. If you would like to “job share,” we would be happy to accommodate this as well.

The poverty simulation is a required event for senior social work and nursing students and is dependent upon getting volunteers to help be part of “the community.” Essentially, you will be acting out the part of a business owner or agency member (such as a grocery store clerk, pawn shop owner, day care worker, unemployment officer, DMV employee, etc.). There is nothing you need to do to prepare. A packet will be given to you at the event (before students arrive) with all that you need to know about your part.

You will have the opportunity to watch the students as they assume the role of a family living in poverty and as they go through daily tasks with the added challenge of poverty. It is truly fascinating and eye-opening for all!

Become a part of a Life Group this semester!

Life Groups are small groups of undergraduate students who meet together for prayer, Bible study and fellowship. Groups meet weekly for 60 to 90 minutes at the time and location of your choosing. Participants will select the group they wish to participate in based on the details that leaders provide. You can sign up with a leader you enjoy and a time that works best for your schedule.

Groups will start the week of Sept. 24 and end the week of Nov. 11. Sign-ups are open through today (Friday) at this link!

In order to promote equitable hiring practices and inclusivity in the workplace, and to further encourage the Be Known promise to our students, George Fox offers Search Advocate Training. The workshop establishes a theoretical foundation of current research about implicit bias and diversity, information about the changing legal landscape in hiring, and an overview of inclusive employment principles.

Join in today (Friday) as professor Paul Anderson provides commentary on the amazing artwork of The Saint John’s Bible, Vol. 1, Pentateuch. From the Days of Creation to an Ethiopian couple in the Garden, this historic artwork is a game-changer for illuminating the Bible’s timeless content.

Our first home football game is tomorrow (Saturday), so please take note of the important information below. Kickoff against Redlands is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. It’s sure to be a great game, so make plans now to join in the fun!

Be sure to move your cars out of the Bauman parking lot and the tennis court parking lot on Friday evening. This space will be dedicated to football fan parking, activities and vendors on Saturday. No parking will be permitted in these lots.

Entrances to the game
There will be two entrances into the game and both are located in the Bauman parking lot, directly behind the stadium.

Wheeler Sports Center closed
The Wheeler Sports Center will be closed from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. This means the basketball gym, racquetball courts and locker rooms will be closed. The Fitness Center will remain open for normal business hours, but you will need to enter through the hallway entrance located on the field level, toward the end of the building near the tennis courts. There will be security officers who will ask you where you are headed; just let them know that you are going to work out.

Bauman Walkway
The sidewalk located between the football stadium and Bauman will be closed. Please walk around the building and do not move the barricade.

Circle Parking Lot
The circle parking lot near Wheeler will be closed for the day. This space is reserved for officials to park in. Officials will arrive as early as 10 a.m.

Sideline Passes
No one will be granted field access without a sideline pass. Sideline passes are issued to those who are required to work and/or have official business during the game.

Tickets
Students and staff can show their ID cards at the gate to get into the game free of charge. Additional tickets can be purchased online or at the gate. Or, visit the athletics ticket website.

We hope to see you at the game at 1:30 p.m. and the tailgates prior to that!

Do you know students who are unable to purchase books or course supplies? The Textbook Assistance Fund has been created to provide assistance to traditional undergraduate students who cannot purchase required course materials due to demonstrated financial hardship. If you know of a student who might benefit, pass along Textbook Assistance Fund information.

The Critical Hit Club will be meeting tomorrow night (Saturday) between 6 and 10 p.m. in Stevens 208. Players both new and old are welcome to join us in a night of Dungeons and Dragons!

Experienced players will be helping to make characters for anyone interested. We are always looking for more to join us in adventuring. Pizza will be provided, but feel free to bring snacks and drinks.
