All are invited to a journal article discussion of pH-responsive nanoparticles targeting endocytic organelles! The discussion will be led by Dr. Jing Hao tonight (Thursday) from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. in EHS 325, and the article should be read prior to the meeting and can be found on the Sigma Zeta FoxTALE page.

Students: many of you are receiving parking citations for parking in wrong lots or areas where your permit doesn’t allow. Refer to your parking brochures that came with your permit and review all of the areas where your permit allows you to park. For example, Resident East permits can park in the LeShana lot (bordered by Villa and Fulton streets), and many of you are getting tickets for parking in the graduate lots surrounding the Roberts Center.

Commuters: the lot on 99W is a great choice as it is only two blocks from the quad and is very rarely full.

Resident West: if the areas on the south side of the quad are full, there is also RW parking north of the quad on Center street, Vermillion and Meridian St. Check your parking brochures for all areas that correspond to your permit as they are block and side of the street specific.

The School of Physical Therapy is excited to host a special presentation by Associate Professor Andrew Meszaros, PT, PhD, from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight (Thursday) in Canyon Commons 101 & 102.

Dr. Meszaros will present the topic “Motor Control Update for the Orthopaedically Minded,” which will provide a succinct modern update of select broad concepts in motor control. Topics will include: effects of motivational influences and autonomy on motor learning; senses of effort and force; movement as a self-organizing and emergent property; “good” versus “bad” variability in movement; antifragility; multifractality; the role of reflexes in voluntary movement; and a survey of misconceptions in sensory processing and therapeutic exercise.

Light refreshments will be served beginning at 5:30 p.m., and the presentation will start at 6 p.m. All are welcome to attend this free event. Tonight (Thursday), American Enterprise Institute and the College of Business are hosting a showing of the documentary of “Mama Rwanda” in Hoover 105 at 7:30 p.m. Afterwards, professor Debby Thomas will be sharing about her time in Rwanda. The physical therapy department is looking for volunteers to participate in a lab session on the lower extremities. If you have a problem with your hip, knee, ankle or foot, our lab is the place to be! Our doctor of physical therapy second-year students, along with faculty members, will be performing examinations and giving you direction on how to take care of your condition. Volunteers are needed for either a one- or two-hour session from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at the Roberts Center.

The Portland Writing Center is seeking a new writing consultant who is enthusiastic about helping fellow graduate and adult degree students understand the components of effective writing. Portland Writing Center consultants are current adult degree-completion and graduate students who work 4 to 8 hours per week meeting with students in face-to-face or online sessions at the Portland Writing Center.

Writing consultant duties include helping students with the following: (1) thinking through ideas for a writing assignment; (2) considering writing choices with regard to audience, focus, purpose, cohesion, and organization; (3) developing ideas with specific evidence; (4) improving research strategies; (5) applying proper documentation and formatting; and (6) understanding basic grammar and mechanics.
