Gift card drive for hungry children in town continues

December 4th, 2017

The Office for Spiritual Life has become aware of a need in the Newberg School District with regard to the upcoming holiday break. Forty-eight percent of students in the Newberg School District participate in the free lunch program, and 168 of the students experience homelessness.

Over the winter break, these children and families will have difficulty getting the meals that they need. The spiritual life office is collecting monetary donations and gift cards to local grocery stores and restaurants to aid our neighbors during the Christmas holiday. Please direct gift cards and/or donations to the Office for Spiritual Life before Dec. 15. Thank you!

Important information on the student employment process

December 3rd, 2017

In an effort to streamline the employment process for new student employees, Employee Empowerment is announcing the following new process for the Newberg campus student employees.

Student supervisors, when employment is offered to a student employee on the Newberg campus, please take the following steps:

  1. Generate an offer letter in the timekeeping system
  2. Send the new student worker to Employee Empowerment for orientation during business hours, BEFORE their first shift. Ensure the student brings acceptable ID for their I9 form and documentation from their bank if they plan to enroll in direct deposit.
  3. Employee Empowerment will assist the student in accepting their offer letter.
  4. Employee Empowerment will fill out the W4, I9 and Direct Deposit paperwork with the student.
  5. Employee Empowerment will provide an overview of the timekeeping system.
  6. Employee Empowerment will provide an overview of resources for student employees.

After a student has completed student employee orientation at Employee Empowerment, they may begin working their shifts in your department.

As always, contact Employee Empowerment anytime you have questions. Kasondra Silva (ksilva@georgefox.edu or 503-554-2184) is your student employment manager and an expert in all things related to student employment.
