Play ‘Living Out’ performed at cultural center April 20-21

April 11th, 2018

The university’s theatre department invites the community to the show Living Out, playing at the Chehalem Cultural Center’s Black Box Theater (415 E. Sheridan St.) on Friday and Saturday, April 20-21, at 7:30 p.m. both evenings.

Living Out tells the story of a Salvadoran nanny and the Anglo lawyer she works for. The play explores what is the shared humanity between them and the differences wrought by race, class and Ana’s immigration status. The play also looks at the prejudices and misconceptions between Anglos and Latinos. How do we make someone “the other”? What is the cost of doing so? The play is both outrageously funny and ultimately tragic.

Tickets are “pay what you want” at the door (no reservations). Contact JeanneAnn Faris (jfaris15@georgefox.edu) for more information.

Say thanks to someone who made a difference

April 11th, 2018

Try to be specific as you describe how this person has contributed to your life.

Leaving vehicles on campus policy

April 10th, 2018

Here is the policy for leaving cars on campus during Juniors Abroad and summer serve trips:

  1. Due to construction all summer long around campus, it is recommended to leave your car off-campus with a friend who can drive it and watch it, as George Fox is not responsible for any theft or damage to your vehicle while left unattended on campus.
  2. Cars must be left in one of two places only: the side of the Le Shana lot closest to Wheeler and the North Street parking lot in between Brandt Hall and Canyon Commons.
  3. The key must be left with Security Services before departure.
  4. Security has a form to be signed, and name and number of emergency contact is needed on the form in addition to your license plate number, make and model of vehicle, and where it was parked.
  5. Upon return from the trip, call security at 503-554-2090 to arrange a time with the officer on duty to pick up your key if it is after office hours. Bring photo ID to claim your key.
  6. Any vehicle left on campus without the key being left with security is subject to tow at your expense due to Plant Services/construction activity all around campus during the summer.
  7. Do not abandon your car on city streets, as the city of Newberg will tow it as an “abandoned vehicle” after 72 hours.
  8. Enjoy your time abroad!

Plan your fall stationery order now

April 10th, 2018

Please plan now for the institution-wide stationery order taken at the end of August. The collective order helps keep costs low – the higher the volume, the lower the cost. Consequently, it is most economical to overestimate needs and store a small surplus.

I will be accepting orders from now through Thursday, Aug. 23, when orders are due.

For order instructions, go to the marketing communications website. Continue to purchase all non-departmental stationery (including “second-sheet letterhead”) through the university’s print services office.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you,
– Danette Newkirk (dnewkirk@georgefox.edu)
