Do you have some free time and want to make a lasting impact on our campus’s aesthetics? We are trying to finish the landscape for the Alumni Plaza, just outside of Ross, before homecoming and we could use some help.

Simply show up at the site on Monday, Oct. 1, through Wednesday, Oct. 3, anytime from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and we will put you to work. Please wear long pants and close-toed shoes for safety. We will provide gloves, tools and water.

Want to practice your Spanish? You are invited to join us at the Spanish Table/Mesa in Canyon Commons each Monday, starting on Oct. 1, anytime between noon and 1:30 p.m. Stop by for a few minutes or stay the entire time (lunch is not included).

Carson Tidland, a senior Spanish major, will be leading the discussion. Sessions will meet through Monday, Dec. 3. Both students and employees are welcome!

Fitness classes are here! Over the next two weeks, the Hadlock Student Center will begin offering a variety of group fitness classes, including spin and strength training. The first class will begin on Thursday, Oct. 4, at 3:30 p.m.!

Come tomorrow morning (Saturday) to serve and build community right here in Newberg/Sherwood! James Project will be meeting at 8:30 a.m. in the Bridge Cafe to partner with Faith and Action by doing yard work for those in need.

Be ready to get dirty and have fun with everyone else serving while connecting with our neighbors! Expect to be back by lunchtime. Transportation, gloves, coffee and snacks are provided.

Are you interested in studying abroad? The Center for Study Abroad will be hosting an information meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 6 p.m. in EHS 125.

Come to the meeting for more details about specific programs, the application process, and application due dates. Someone from the registrar’s office will be there to answer questions about classes and transfer credits. Study abroad ambassadors will also be in attendance to answer questions and offer guidance.

Have you walked by the area between the Ross Center and Stoffer Family Stadium and wondered what was going on? If so, we have exciting news: The space will be home to a new Alumni Plaza featuring a 10-foot-tall bronze bear! The plaza will serve as a visual reminder of our pride in being Bruins and celebrate the legacy of George Fox.

On the Saturday of homecoming weekend, Oct. 6, we will host a special Alumni Plaza unveiling ceremony from 11:30 to noon. Free bear claws and coffee will be served, and a tailgate time follows in the Bauman parking lot. We hope you can join us!

The Intercultural Resource Center is hosting the third annual Voices Conference at George Fox University in Bauman Auditorium and various Canyon Commons rooms. The Voices Conference will run from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, and Saturday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This Multicultural Leadership conference is open to people from all backgrounds and cultures. Our vision is to create space for students, faculty, staff and community members to engage in meaningful conversations about being multicultural leaders in an increasingly diverse society.

Well-known leaders and speakers Leroy and Donna Barber, and Alexia Salvatierra will be leading workshops and discussions regarding social justice, leadership and diversity.

The Center for Study Abroad is hosting a study abroad fair on Wednesday, Oct. 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in  Canyon Commons. Many of our off-campus programs will have representatives present, so come by to get information about different programs, countries, and their requirements. We will also be passing out information about the Center for Study Abroad application requirements and deadlines.

There will also be a prize drawing of $500 toward a study abroad program of your choice for those who attend and participate.

Author Gabe Lyons will be on campus tomorrow (Friday) to present a free lecture, “Faithfulness in the Age of Distraction,” at 7:30 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium. Lyons, coauthor of Good Faith (2016) and unChristian (2007) and the author of The Next Christians (2010), doesn’t shy away from talking about the most difficult and controversial issues of our time.

Come hear new ways of thinking about yourself and the culture around you. Chapel credit is available to students who attend!
