Summer service and immersion SpiL trip applications are still open! These are two- to three-week-long trips in May and June. This year we are going to Romania/Moldova with Word Made Flesh, Kenya with Open Arms International, and Palestine/Israel with Global Immersion.

Applications are due Saturday, Dec. 1! Applications can be found at this link. Teams begin preparing fundraising campaigns in December before winter break.

Join in fun of Family Day this Saturday at the Hadlock Student Center

The Hadlock Student Center is hosting its first Family Day this Saturday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We are excited to share this space with George Fox employees and their immediate family members!

If you plan to attend, please take note of these items …

  • Sandals and other open-toe shoes are not permitted.
  • Non-marking athletic shoes are required in the gym and fitness center rooms.
  • Children under 14 are allowed in all areas of the HSC except the cardio/weight area.
  • Family members aged 14 to 17 can use the cardio/weight equipment while directly supervised by a parent or guardian.

Please take a few minutes in advance to complete this waiver for yourself (if you haven’t done so already) and a separate form for each family member that will be attending.

We are thrilled to welcome 240 prospective students and parents to campus for Bruin Preview tomorrow and Friday, Oct. 25-26. For many of these visitors, it will be their first time setting foot on campus, and many of them will be interacting with each of you!

We are so thankful for your involvement in making this an incredible experience for students and their families. As a courtesy to our guests, please avoid parking in the Hoover and Stevens lots so that they can arrive on campus with ease.

Child actors needed for senior thesis film shoot Saturday

Our senior thesis student film is in need of child actors from ages 6 to 13 to act in a small part of our film. We will be filming the afternoon (1-3 p.m.) of Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Prayer Chapel. Snacks will be provided.

RSVP for free estate planning lunch event on Nov. 13

Please join us to learn about estate planning on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at noon in Canyon Commons 101. The Estate Planning Workshop will review the five documents everyone should have in place for a tax-efficient and loving estate plan.

Gene Christian, a recognized regional estate planning leader and George Fox alumnus, will present this workshop and be available to those who would like to confidentially discuss their estate plans.

A light lunch of soup and salad will be served. There is no cost to you for either the workshop or the lunch.

Plan to get your flu shot Nov. 8 or Nov. 15

The Health and Counseling Center will be joining forces with the School of Nursing for two flu shot clinics on campus.

Get your flu shot for $20 (free for students on PacificSource student insurance plan) on either Thursday, Nov. 8, or Thursday, Nov. 15, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The Nov. 8 session will be in Canyon Commons; the Nov. 15 clinic will be in Roberts 117.

Nursing students will administer the vaccinations while under the direct supervision of nursing faculty as well as the university’s school nurse. Come support our nursing students!

Listen to guest physical therapy doctor speak on exercise and chronic disease

The School of Physical Therapy is excited to host Dr. Kim E. Eppen, physical therapist and clinical specialist at the University of Iowa, on from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, in Canyon Commons 101.

Dr. Eppen will present the topic “Exercise Prescription in Chronic Disease.” The primary objectives for this lecture are to identify the relationship between inactivity and chronic disease, discuss physical activity guidelines for “general health benefits,” and discuss the role of physicians and other healthcare providers in assessing and prescribing physical activity/exercise for prevention and/or management of chronic disease.

Everyone is encouraged to attend this free event. Light refreshments will be served.

Join the Photography Club’s first outing this Sunday

Photography Club’s first outing will be happening this Sunday, Oct. 28. We will be visiting the Holcomb Creek Trestle outside of Hillsboro and the Portland Japanese Garden. We will be carpooling from the George Fox campus. We will be meeting in the circular parking lot beside Pennington and Klages and leaving around 10 a.m. We plan to return to campus around 3 p.m.

Snacks will be provided, but we highly suggest bringing a lunch or money to pay for lunch. The Japanese Garden also has an admission fee of $13.50 for students. Please bring a camera or your phone with you for taking photos, as well as a rain jacket and boots.

Join Fencing Club tonight in the Hadlock Student Center

A group of students within the NURS 401 Community Health class has partnered with the Bruin Community Pantry (BCP) to assess the needs regarding food insecurity on our campus. We would appreciate your feedback and input!

The survey should take about five to 10 minutes to complete. The feedback we receive will be used to better understand the community population and needs to be met. If there are needs and appropriate recommendations made, it will be shared with those overseeing the pantry on campus. We also encourage you to share this survey with other peers.

Flu Shot Clinic

  • Kaiser is sponsoring “Get a flu shot” on campus! They will be on-site the duration of the Wellness Fair.
  • Employees, spouses and children (age 18 or over) are welcome.
  • There is no cost for Kaiser members; just show up! If you are not a Kaiser member, “Get a flu shot” bills most major insurance companies, including Regence (be sure to bring your ID card with you).
