Donate cold-weather items for the homeless by Monday

On Tuesday, Nov. 27, the Social Work Club will be creating cold-weather kits for those experiencing homelessness!

We would greatly appreciate any donations, including socks, gloves, hats, Chapstick, toothbrushes, toothpaste, aspirin, oatmeal packets, instant soup, snacks, and Ziplock bags. Please bring all donations to the Meridian Street House no later than Monday, Nov. 26.

President Robin and Ruth Baker invite employees to Christmas concert

President Robin and Ruth Baker cordially invite employees to celebrate together the great mystery of Christ the Lord at the Christmas Concert this Sunday, Dec. 9, at 2:30 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium.

Employees are entitled to two complimentary tickets for Sunday’s matinee or a single ticket for any of the other performances (on Dec. 7 or Dec. 8). Following the concert on Sunday, employees are invited to a Christmas open house at the president’s home from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at 701 E. Franklin St. in Newberg.

You can select your concert tickets online at this link (be sure to select “GFU Employee” in the drop-down menu on the page that pops up after making your seat selection). If selecting your complimentary seats for Sunday, you may disregard the note that states employees are only entitled to one ticket per event; however, you must still select “Okay, I will bring my ID to the door” in the drop-down menu.

Campus Public Safety has job openings

We currently have multiple full-time and part-time positions open in Campus Public Safety and need your help finding qualified candidates.

The lead campus safety officer is a full-time evening supervisory position. In addition, we have multiple part-time security professional positions that are available for those wanting flexibility in their schedule.

Midyear commencement in need of ushers

Midyear commencement is Saturday, Dec. 15, at 11 a.m., and the Office of Academic Affairs is looking for volunteers to usher.

We’d love to have you join us as we celebrate our graduates on their big day! If you choose to help, the time commitment will be from 9:30 a.m. to around 12:30 p.m. All George Fox employees who serve as ushers will have the option to receive $50 through payroll or take three hours off in lieu of payment.

The best place to find scholarships is in your own backyard! Apply for 2019-20 donor-funded scholarships, available exclusively for current undergraduate students. You can find the application on MyGFU under “Newberg UG Scholarships.”

Tip: Some scholarships require a letter of recommendation. These are due the same day Scholarship Manager closes on Jan. 21, 2019. Complete the application early to give your references time to write letters!

Hours of operation in the dining room will change over Thanksgiving weekend as follows:

  • Wednesday, Nov. 21: Lunch from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; dinner from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, Nov. 22: Brunch from 10:30 to 1 a.m.; Thanksgiving dinner from 4 to 4:30 p.m.
  • Friday, Nov. 23 and Saturday, Nov. 24: Brunch from 10:30 to 11 a.m.; dinner from 5 to 5:45 p.m.
  • Sunday, Nov. 25: Brunch from 10:30 to 11 a.m.; dinner from 5 to 7 p.m.

Regular hours of operation resume Monday, Nov. 26.

The Nutrition Matters grant at George Fox is sponsoring upcoming cooking demonstrations. If you would like to learn how to make a healthy meal, join us in Canyon Commons tonight (Monday) from 7 to 8 p.m. to learn how to make healthy holiday food!

Emily Forbes, a George Fox alumna and local nutritionist, is passionate about helping students learn to make healthy meals. You will walk away with knowledge on how to make a dish, a sample, and the recipe! It’s like watching a cooking show, but you actually get to taste the food! Join us! Both students and employees are welcome.

French cheese and bread served up tomorrow night in Bruin Den

The French Club is hosting an open-house style night of French cheese in the Bruin Den! Join us between 7 and 9 p.m. tomorrow (Tuesday).
