STRONG, a group created to provide support to students dealing with chronic illness or pain that affects daily life (fibromyalgia, PTSD, ME/CFS, etc.), is getting started on campus.

These things are often invisible to the healthy population and can be isolating, especially as a college student. We want you to feel supported and heard in your community!

On Tuesday, Feb. 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the IDEA Center is hosting its third annual Job & Internship Fair. Employers from the Portland area and beyond will be on campus to talk with students from all majors, looking to recruit for various jobs and internships.

This is an amazing opportunity to connect with industry-leading companies right here on the George Fox campus. Stay tuned for updates in the coming weeks!

Are you a sports fan? Do you want to pursue a career in the sports industry? Then come to the Portland Trail Blazers’ Sports Career & Internship Fair on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 4:30 p.m. at the Moda Center.

Tickets are $14 and include fair registration and a ticket to the game that night. Bring your $14 and reserve your spot by visiting the IDEA Center on the first floor of the Stevens Center.

Transportation will be available. A panel will be followed by the fair, where you can talk to specific recruiters.

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) is here to help students with writing, study skills, test-taking strategies, time management, and more.

We will open next week starting on Tuesday, Jan. 22. If you will be requiring a visit to the ARC for one of your papers/projects, please email Julia James (jjames@georgefox.edu) to make sure the ARC schedule and consultants are prepared to meet your students’ needs.

Need help writing a paper, staying on top of your assignments, or preparing for tests? Come to the Academic Resource Center (ARC), where you will find students helping students. Through one-on-one and group consultations, trained peer consultants can help you become a better reader, writer and learner.

The School of Physical Therapy has launched a Twitter page (@GFUDPT) devoted to health promotion. The goal of this page is to present new and updated information for the public, including information about exercise, videos presenting exercise techniques, dietary recommendations, and cooking videos demonstrating healthy options.

Volleyball’s rise in popularity over the past 30 years has created a growing need to better understand the biomechanical causes for shoulder injuries, particularly in youth volleyball players.

The biomedical engineering program is inviting a candidate to speak to how their research lab uses motion capture to analyze the mechanics of hitting a volleyball with the goal of creating better best-practices guidelines for strength and conditioning and repetition counts.

Join us from 3 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, in EHS 102 to hear about several ongoing experiments in the lab, including using impulse and momentum techniques to estimate the forces on the body during a hit and ways to compare variation in types of motions. The presentation will highlight connections between the undergraduate engineering curriculum and the research techniques.

If you are a social work sophomore (or social work freshman who is planning on studying abroad) and are planning to apply to the BSW program, this is a reminder that the late application deadline is Friday, Jan. 25, by 5 p.m., when all application materials need to be turned in to the Meridian Street House (social work office).

Know students would would make good campus leaders? Encourage them to attend the Student Leadership Fair to learn how to become a Resident Assistant (RA), Peer Advisor (PA), or other student life leader.
