Crepes for a Cause is partnering with Costa Coffee tomorrow (Wednesday) morning. Come out to the quad for a yummy breakfast of crepes and coffee from 8 to 11 a.m.

Crepes are only $3 for all-inclusive toppings. All proceeds from the crepes will support the SpiL Romania trip, and the net profit from the coffee goes toward a Costa Rican orphanage, Hogar de Vida. So, fill your tummy this Wednesday morning by supporting some good causes!

Are you interested in going whitewater rafting on the Clackamas River?

Join us March 9 or 16 as we gear up for a fun day on the river with YD Adventures. The trip cost is $20 plus travel expenses, which will be determined by the total number of people going ($5-$10). Sign up through IMLeagues.com. 

This will be an all-day outing, so participants will need to pack a lunch and bring a change of clothes. Wetsuits and other river gear will be provided by YD Adventures.

A training session for Cascade Server, the system used to edit the university website, will be offered on Thursday, March 21, from 10 a.m. to noon.

This basic-level session is tailored for editors who have either not edited the website before or need a refresher on using the software. The session will be held in the computer lab in the Newberg library basement. To sign up, please use this form.

Do you know a senior who demonstrates outstanding service as a servant leader on campus or in the community? You can honor that person and the activity of voluntary service by nominating him or her for the C.W. Perry Servant Leadership Award.

In order for your nominee to qualify, this nomination form must be received by Friday, March 22.

The trustees of the Barney II and Moore Foundations have established the C.W. Perry Servant Leadership Award at George Fox University to reward leadership in the area of community and ministry service.

Only seniors (graduating in May 2019) are eligible for award consideration. Up to four $1,000 awards will be given annually. Each award recipient will be required to set aside $250 of this gift to the charitable organization of his or her choice. The remaining $750 will be distributed to the award recipient in the form of a cash award.

Nathan McDaniel (Plant Services) is taking on a new role as landscape installation technician.

Rebekah Hanson (Music) presented a lecture, “How Chamber Music can Enhance Large Ensembles,” at the Northwest Conference for Music Educators. The goal of the presentation was to help music educators create collaborative and student-led learning environments by promoting engagement, community and connection through small ensembles. Hanson also directed the university’s Chamber Orchestra at the conference. The ensemble performed a set of pieces from Argentina, Cuba, Hungry and Spain, titled “Tangos & More.” They will be performing a few of the works at the Chamber Music Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, in Bauman Auditorium.

Ed Higgins (English Emeritus) recent published two poems: “Sisyphus” appeared in the Feb. 26 edition of the online publication Mediterranean Poetry, and“Reversal” was included in the print edition of the Spring 2019 issue of The Windhover: A Journal of Christian Literature, created by the English department at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Anderson Campbell (College of Christian Studies) presented “Listening to God: An Introduction to Contemplative Prayer” at the Jubilee Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Feb. 22-24. Jubilee is an annual conference attended by thousands of college students from more than 140 colleges across the United States.  

Publisher’s Weekly has announced the publication of a picture book anthology, Take the Mic, that will include a poem by Guadalupe Garcia McCall (English), titled “Quinceañera at the Capitol.” The collection will feature 14 young, contemporary, American activists, each spotlighted by a well-known poet. It is scheduled to be published in the fall of 2020.
