It’s that time again … Welcome Weekend is our chance to welcome each and every new student as they step onto campus. We are still looking for volunteers to help out this Friday, Aug. 23.

With such a large incoming class, we need all hands on deck as we each do our part to make students and their guests feel the Be Known promise. And who better to do that than our own faculty and staff? Please complete this form and we will contact you with further instructions.

The library is pleased to deliver library material for participating faculty to their offices on the Newberg campus. All library material must be signed for by the faculty member or persons authorized to sign.

In the past, the Office of Student Life has delivered brightly colored folders with information for staff and faculty to use as a resource should the unforeseeable take place: a student in crisis needing intervention.

In our effort to reduce paper, as well as make these materials accessible to you online, we have created a folder in Google Drive. You will need to use your George Fox email to log in.

The Office for Spiritual and Intercultural Life is looking for Life Group leaders for our eight-week fall Life Groups (the weeks of Sept. 16 to Nov. 8).

Life Groups are small groups of undergraduate students who meet together for prayer, Bible study and fellowship. Groups meet weekly for 60 to 90 minutes at the time and location of your choosing. Participants will select the group they wish to participate in based on the details that leaders provide.

Groups are encouraged to use one of the curriculum options recommended by the Office for Spiritual Life that parallel other themes that are being explored in chapel. We welcome our alumni, family members of George Fox employees and students, and members of our wonderful local churches to consider leading a group.

Our fall leader meeting will take place on Thursday, Sept. 5, from noon to 1:30 p.m., and lunch will be provided. For more information and to sign up, visit our webpage.

This Saturday, Aug. 24, Mail Services will be open between the hours of 1 and 4:30 p.m. to allow you to come pick up your packages. No outgoing packages will be accepted.

We hope faculty will find the Libraries’ Digital Learning resources useful as you prepare your FoxTALE course sites. The guide FoxTALE Course Life Cycle includes video demonstrations and instructions on how to import content into your 2019 Fall course sites, make your course sites visible to students, and more.

FoxTALE was upgraded on Aug. 16. You may be interested to know that the Dashboard has changed. The guides Locating Your Courses and Adjusting Course Start and End Dates give a tour of the highlights.

A training session for Cascade Server, the system used to edit the university website, will be offered on Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 2 to 4 p.m.

We are looking forward to another great Serve Day (Wednesday, Sept. 11) this year! In an effort to underscore our missional convictions around Serve Day, we are implementing some changes in the schedule this year. Here is what to expect for Serve Day 2019:

• Lunch lines are open from 8 to 9:10 a.m. in the quad.*
• The Kickoff Celebration will begin at 9:15 a.m. in the quad.
• A Church & Activities Fair will take place from 3 to 4:15 p.m. in Bauman/Ross parking lot.
• Serve Day chapel will be at 4:15 p.m. in Stoffer Family Stadium.
• The Church & Activities Fair will continue after chapel from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. in the Bauman/Ross parking lot.
  
  *Breakfast and dinner is on your own. Lunch is free for students, team leaders and the Serve Day Committee; employees may purchase lunch at the Bruin Den (open from 8 to 10 a.m., offering the same lunch option as students, as well as other lunch and beverage options).

The Serve Day team has sent serve site placement and information to all employees. If you did not get an email from Serve Day and you are FTE .5 and above, please fill out this form as soon as you are able.

The facility will resume normal hours of operation on Sunday, Aug. 25.

The climbing wall will be closed from Thursday, Aug. 22, through Sunday, Aug. 25, while we are training our staff and setting new routes for the year.

There is a new museum exhibit in the Stevens Center called “Remembering our Quaker Heritage, 1891-1921.” It focuses on the role of women and also peacemaking in the early years of the college.

The IDEA Center has expanded drop-in hours the first week of school (Aug. 26-30), from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m.
