More than 2,000 people were involved in Serve Day in various ways. We know that this means that more than 2,000 people saw different sides of Serve Day; we are eager to learn about these experiences.

Come at 6:45 p.m. to fill in your slot or 7 p.m. if you plan to watch the fun. The Coffee Cottage is located at 808 East Hancock Street.

Are you interested in playing competitive Spikeball in the upcoming fall tour series? George Fox is hosting the College Fall Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 26.

Love dancing? Then come join the Swing Dance Club this Saturday night in the FoxHole.

Beginner lessons start at 6:30 p.m., followed by the intermediate dance at 7 p.m. and the open dance at 7:30 p.m. All are welcome to join us!

The Fusion Asian American Club would like to invite all students to our first club meeting this year! The meeting will be held tonight (Thursday) in the Intercultural Resource Center (IRC) at 7 p.m.

Get to know the officers and other club members, learn about club goals and events, and engage in conversation as we talk about the infamous question, “Where are you really from?”

We will be having our first Intergenerational Game Night of the semester tonight (Thursday). Come take a break from homework and join fellow George Fox students and our neighbors at Friendsview for a night of fun and games!

The games include ping pong tournaments and various board games. We will meet in the Bauman Auditorium lobby at 6:15 p.m. to walk over to Friendsview together.

George Fox University offers tuition remission to eligible employees, their spouses and their dependent children. Please see the tuition remission web page for more information.  

Employees may elect tuition remission for eligible part-time students up to 120 days before the start of a semester. The deadline to apply for students enrolling part time for spring 2020 is Sept. 15, 2019. You may also elect future semesters on the enrollment form. 

Please note future deadlines:
Summer semester 2020: Jan. 5, 2020
Fall semester 2020: May 3, 2020 

Eligible employees may elect tuition remission for full-time students for the 2020-21 academic year between now and Nov. 5, 2019. Employees with dependents wishing to utilize tuition exchange must also apply for tuition remission. Please see the web page for instructions.

In an effort to bring you even more great local discounts, the Bruin Card has been moved to a digital format and is now Bruin Discounts.

It can be found by logging in on igfu.georgefox.edu, a mobile version of MyGeorgeFox. Once logged in, you will find Bruin Discounts near the top of the landing page. 

While the card only had space for 15 discounts, there are currently 22 discounts for staff, 23 for students and more on the way! Discounts only show up on your mobile device if you are eligible for them.

For those without a smartphone, please stay tuned. There will be a limited number of cards printed for your use with a web address to a page that has all of the current offers listed.

The politics department invites the university community to a pair of Constitution Day lectures next week.

Bradley Watson, the Philip M. McKenna Chair in American and Western Political Thought and co-director of the Center for Political and Economic Thought at Saint Vincent College, will speak Monday, Sept. 16, on the topic “The Living Constitution and the Decline of the Rule of Law.”

Two nights later, on Wednesday, Sept. 18, David Nammo, executive director and CEO of the Christian Legal Society since 2012, will speak on “Religious Liberty and the Rule of Law.”

Both lectures begin at 6:30 p.m. in Hoover 105 and are free and open to the public. Contact Mark David Hall (mhall@georgefox.edu) for more information.

The Bruin Den will be open from 7:30 to 10 a.m. this morning (Wednesday). Stop by for coffee, a pastry or to pick up a grab-and-go item before you leave campus for Serve Day activities.

If you’d like to purchase a sack lunch, you may do that in the Bruin Den as well. The price is $6.75.

The worship ensemble is looking for a bass player this semester to join our band. We lead worship for Tuesday morning chapels, worship gatherings on campus, as well as local churches.

The Bruin Community Pantry‘s food bank will be open during the following times fall semester:

• Mondays – 8 to 11 a.m., noon to 5 p.m. 
• Wednesdays – 8 to 10:30 a.m., 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. 
• Thursdays - 12:30 to 5 p.m. 
• Fridays – 1 to 4 p.m. 

The food bank will be closed during university holidays.

Remember, if you want to compete for a chance at a $75,000 scholarship, the registration deadline is tomorrow (Thursday) and the competition is on Sunday, Sept. 15, and Sunday, Sept. 22.
