Space still available for web editor training on Wednesday

A training session for Cascade Server, the system used to edit the university website, will be offered on Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 2 to 4 p.m.

This basic-level session is tailored for editors who have either not edited the website before or need a refresher on using the software. The session will be held in Stevens 307. Sign up using this form.

Serve Day 2019: Important Updates for Employees

We are looking forward to another great Serve Day (Wednesday, Sept. 11) this year! In an effort to underscore our missional convictions around Serve Day, we are implementing some changes in the schedule this year. Here is what to expect for Serve Day 2019:

  • Lunch lines are open from 8 to 9:10 a.m. in the quad.*
  • The Kickoff Celebration will begin at 9:15 a.m. in the quad.
  • A Church & Activities Fair will take place from 3 to 4:15 p.m. in Bauman/Ross parking lot.
  • Serve Day chapel will be at 4:15 p.m. in Stoffer Family Stadium.
  • The Church & Activities Fair will continue after chapel from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. in the Bauman/Ross parking lot.

    *Breakfast and dinner is on your own. Lunch is free for students, team leaders and the Serve Day Committee; employees may purchase lunch at the Bruin Den (open from 8 to 10 a.m., offering the same lunch option as students, as well as other lunch and beverage options).

The Serve Day team has sent serve site placement and information to all employees. If you did not get an email from Serve Day and you are FTE .5 and above, please fill out this form as soon as you are able.

Please note the modified hours for the Hadlock Student Center during Welcome Weekend. 

  • Thursday, Aug. 22: Closed all day for staff training
  • Friday, Aug. 23: Noon to 10 p.m.
  • Saturday, Aug. 24: Noon to 10 p.m. 

The facility will resume normal hours of operation on Sunday, Aug. 25.

The climbing wall will be closed from Thursday, Aug. 22, through Sunday, Aug. 25, while we are training our staff and setting new routes for the year.

New Quaker exhibit now up in Stevens Center

There is a new museum exhibit in the Stevens Center called “Remembering our Quaker Heritage, 1891-1921.” It focuses on the role of women and also peacemaking in the early years of the college.

Need an updated photo for the university website? Do you currently have the Bruin bear as your faculty/staff pic? The marketing communications team will be outside of Canyon Commons after the all-community meeting on Monday, Aug. 19, between 3 and 4 p.m.

No appointment is necessary. Just drop by and have your photo taken; the marketing communications team will take care of the rest!

Tomorrow (Friday), Plant Services will be cleaning the large Wheeler/Le Shana parking lot. The construction fence for the Newlin residence hall is down, so we would like to clean the entire lot before the cars start arriving.

Please be sure to park elsewhere on Friday (you can park in the North Street parking lot that day) so that we can clean the area thoroughly.

Still use your alumni email account? Password update will be needed

Are you an employee who uses your alumni email account? If so, with the changes taking place in the single sign-on system this Friday, Aug. 16, the upgrade will require you to change your password for your alumni email account only.

To do so, please contact the Service Desk after the upgrade at 503-554-2569, opt. 1, for a password reset.

Take advantage of bookstore’s textbook pick-up party

Don’t wait until the first day of classes to pick up your textbooks! Instead, swing by the bookstore’s textbook pick-up party during Welcome Weekend, down in the FoxHole.

Textbook pick-ups will be available for students who placed their orders online and have prepaid for their items. Our pick-up party will take place on Saturday, Aug. 24, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and on Sunday, Aug. 25, from noon to 3 p.m. Be sure to bring your student ID, and we will see you then!

All-community meeting is this Monday in Canyon Commons

Make plans to join your colleagues at the all-community meeting, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Monday, Aug. 19, in Canyon Commons.

The day will begin with a continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m., and lunch will be provided midway through the meeting. The event will include a worship and devotional time, updates from President Robin Baker, and employee service award recognition.
