Life, Together is a series of vignettes that explore the issues and problems within ourselves that prevent us from living well in community. The themes and concepts of these five short plays are inspired by Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s theological writings on Christian community.
Theatre student Maddie Teel has written five short plays (around 10 minutes each) for her Richter Scholar Grant. Five of our student directors have volunteered to direct those five plays and help Maddie develop them into an evening of theatre. The show date will be Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 7:30 p.m.

In order to promote a fun and positive environment around the Halloween and harvest party season, the Office of Student Life has a few tips on avoiding cultural appropriation in your costume choice:
Avoid clothing that belongs to the traditions of a people group other than your own.
Avoid anything that involves blackface, Native/Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, Hispanic, or Latinx representation, etc.
Ask yourself: Why do I want to wear this costume? Could my costume be misunderstood if I don’t understand its origin or cultural context?Â
Not sure what cultural appropriation is? Stop by the Intercultural Resource Center (IRC) and ask Bryce or Jenny about it.
As we are moving into the fall and holiday season, Wellness Wednesdays has some helpful tips for you on how to deal with emotional eating and how to plan for a stress-free holiday. Please read this piece.
It’s Invisible Disability Week, and we’re excited to bring more visibility to disabilities on campus by launching a student conversation group!
We welcome students who face diverse disabilities to a conversation about navigating life with a disability. Led by a senior social work major who lives with a disability, this group will allow students to share their experiences, consider connections between disability and spirituality, hear from each other, and talk in a safe space with other students with disabilities.
This group will meet for an hour and a half on the Newberg campus on Monday, Oct. 26, or Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. (Lemmons 14).
After one meeting, the group members will decide whether or not to continue meeting. Each group is limited to six participants, but we will work to provide groups for all who are interested. SPIL credit is available.
The Society of Women Engineers group invites you to come hang out, study or do homework in a space that offers water, Capri Sun and packages of chips! We’ll be meeting from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22, in Lemmons 8. Come and go as you please!

This evening (Wednesday) from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. the Reedwood Forum will host Dr. Kent Thornburg, a George Fox alumnus and the M. Lowell Edwards Chair and Professor of Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University, for a discussion on ‘The Quaker Vision of COVID-19: The Scientific Journey.”
They will be discussing the latest scientific research of COVID-19 and Christian responses from a Quaker perspective. Pastor Mark Condo will moderate the Zoom and live conversation.

It’s time to vote! If you are a resident of Oregon, here are the steps to take:
If you are registered you will receive a ballot two or three weeks before the election via mail. You will receive a mail-in ballot automatically because that is Oregon law.
To change your voting address, go to this link and follow the instructions. Mail your ballot back by Wednesday, Oct. 28. If you miss that date, you will need to drop it in a ballot box.
If you live out of state:
The government will allow you to vote via absentee voting (mail-in) in the state you are attending school. Visit this page for information on how to vote if you live out of state. To change your address, check out this page.
Tips for preventing a rejected ballot:
Vote early. That means mail in your ballot before Oct. 28.
Make sure your signature is the same as the signature on your driver’s license.
Do not vote twice.
Remember to mail in your ballot; do not keep it as a souvenir.
Changes are coming to the credit card policy (expected go-live date is Nov. 2, 2020), and you will receive more communication if there are any changes to your card and how it can be used.

Our featured speaker, and recipient of the 2019-20 Faculty Achievement Award for Undergraduate Research and Scholarship, is Jillian Sokso, professor of art and design.Â
Join us as Jillian presents “Chaos Garden,†a visual examination of the impulse we humans have to control and beautify our immediate surrounding landscape, all the while contributing to and ignoring the impact of our daily lives on the larger planet. Professor Sokso will also share about her research project that involves turning native plants to paper!
