Disability & Accessibility Services would like to recommend a podcast, entitled “Creating Successful Learning Experiences for Students Who Identify as Neurodiverse,” given by Dr. Siva priya Santhanam.
If you want to learn more about neurodiverse individuals’ experiences, such as those with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and more, this a great introduction. The podcast also includes some attainable adjustments that can be made to classes or experiences before they start to make them more accessible to all individuals.
Want to discuss this further? Join a follow-up conversation with DAS on Wednesday, April 14, from 11 a.m. to noon on Zoom. We’ll discuss the podcast and brainstorm ways to make classes and other campus experiences more accessible to neurodiverse individuals.
Questions? Contact Andrea Byerley at abyerley@georgefox.edu.

Spouses and dependents of employees are now permitted to use the Hadlock Student Center, effective since late last week. If a spouse or adult dependent has a George Fox ID card, they need to login to MyGeorgeFox on their personal account and sign this year’s waiver.
If a spouse or adult dependent needs an ID card, they must email the IT Help Desk (servicedesk@georgefox.edu) to request one and a login to MyGeorgeFox. Once the waiver is completed and the spouse or adult dependent has a valid ID, they will be able to use the Hadlock Student Center.
Spouses and adult dependents are able to participate in most programs and services that Hadlock offers, such as exercise classes and the climbing wall, with the exception of outdoor recreation trips and activities at this time.
For details on dependents 12 to 17 years of age, please see below, as our normal policy still applies. Dependents under the age of 12 are not permitted access at this time (with the exception of Family Days).
Here is our policy for family and dependents of employees:
- Full-time university employees can request a George Fox ID card for a spouse or dependent (aged 18 to 26) by emailing the IT Help Desk (servicedesk@georgefox.edu)
- Spouses and dependents are not allowed to use the employee’s ID card for entrance
- A dependent is defined as a member of the household who is claimed as a dependent on the employee’s tax return
- Dependents aged 12 to 17 can use the HSC while directly supervised by a parent/guardian although they are not required to obtain a George Fox ID card
- Dependents under the age of 18 need to have a completed guest waiver on file prior to utilizing the facility

The provost’s and president’s offices have declared the undergrad drive-through commencement this year to be an all-hands-on-deck event. We need about 200 people (spread across several shifts) to help create a celebratory commencement experience for our undergraduates May 1-2.
Your responsibilities will include making sure cars travel the route safely and efficiently, and of course, cheering on our grads throughout the parade route!
If you will not be working commencement as part of your main job responsibilities, please consider signing up for a time slot or two by Monday, April 19, to participate in the commencement drive-through festivities. More details will be provided after you sign up.
This is compensable time. Non-exempt hourly employees should log hours worked and may either take time off in lieu of hours worked on May 1 or 2, that week (taken before May 7) with permission of your supervisor, or receive additional straight time or overtime for total hours worked that week. Exempt employees may flex their schedule and take time in lieu that week with the approval of their supervisor.
Undergraduate faculty will receive separate instructions on where to greet their grads according to this department drive-through schedule.
A huge thanks in advance from the Commencement Planning Committee!
Questions? Write the provost’s office at officeoftheprovost@georgefox.edu.

The physical therapy program is interested in the use of telehealth as a way to screen for frailty in community-dwelling older adults using the modified Physical Performance Test. The study will be taking place Monday and Wednesday afternoons through April 28 (note updated days) in the Roberts Center.
Appointments are available for one-hour time slots between 3:30 and 6 p.m.
In order to qualify for this study, you must:
- Be 60-90 years old
- Live independently or in an assisted living facility
- Be able to walk without the help of another person
- Pass a mental status exam
In order to qualify for this study, you must not:
- Have been diagnosed with a neurological condition
- Have a current illness or health issues that would make performing physical activities unsafe
If you qualify for this study, you may be asked to come to campus, where you will be asked to perform a physical performance test both in a lab setting and a telehealth setting.
Cameras will record the movement of markers that will be placed on your body, and force plates in the ground will record your foot contact during the sit-to-stand activity in the lab. Your performance during the telehealth activities will be recorded.
The testing session will last approximately one hour. If interested, please contact research staff member Lyndsay Stutzenberger (lstutzenberger@georgefox.edu or 503-554-2463).

We’d also like to announce that Gabe Messing will be the club president for the 2021-22 school year! However, Gabe can’t do it alone, and we still need a vice president and treasurer to help run the club. These positions do not take a lot of time out of your week, so please consider volunteering for next year!Â
