Ready to get started in Canvas? Digital Learning has some resources to help you:
How to Enter Canvas
Explore Your Sandbox
When you enter Canvas, you will see courses listed on your dashboard. One of these courses is entitled “[Your Name] Sandbox.” You can use this site to play with features. Cannot find it? The guide, Locating Your Course, demonstrates how to find courses and organize your dashboard.
Complete the training Higher Education: First Day Ready
- The video, Accessing First Day Ready (1:25 minutes) demonstrates how to enroll in the tutorial.
- In the Canvas dashboard, click on the “Help” icon located at the bottom of the navigation bar, which is on the left side of the screen
- Select “Training Services Portal”
- In the “Learning Library” tab, select the tutorial “Higher Education: First Day Ready”
- Enroll
The tutorial is a series of modules that guide you through the features of Canvas from the instructor’s perspective. It is self-paced so you can complete modules over an extended period of time.
Import Content into Your Canvas Instructional Course Sites
All FoxTALE course sites have been migrated to Canvas. The guides at Importing Course Content demonstrate how to review your migrated sites, labeled Moodle, and import content from those sites into your new instructional course sites, labeled 2021 Fall or 2022 Spring.
We are glad to answer questions as you explore. You may also want to join us for 30-minute web conferences in which we cover specific topics. See the Digital Learning Calendar for the listing of topics and dates.
Questions? Contact Gloria Doherty (gdoherty@georgefox.edu).

If you as a faculty or staff member require a desk, bookcase, filing cabinet or table, a work order will need to be entered for the delivery of these items.
Contact your building monitor so that they can enter the work order on your behalf. The custodial services team will deliver an item that matches the existing building furniture style.
If no items exist in the surplus furniture inventory, your request will be denied and purchasing will work with you on acquiring the pieces of furniture that are needed.

You might already be aware that George Fox has moved from the FoxTALE course management system to Canvas. For those of you who are new to Canvas or just want a refresher, here are some resources to help you get familiar with the system:
- 3-5 minute videos giving an overview of Canvas and specific components of the platform.
- The Passport to Canvas site within Canvas provides a deeper dive into the system and is a great way to become “expert” in using Canvas. Each module will probably take 10-20 minutes, but it will be well worth the time.
- Detailed step-by-step guides for functions within Canvas.
Consider having your Canvas page (canvas.georgefox.edu) open in one window and follow the steps in the tutorials to get a good handle on how to navigate Canvas. You may want to consider adding this link in your Chrome bookmarks or Firefox browser.
To access Canvas’s extensive support options, click the Help link at the bottom of the left sidebar of your Canvas site. Options include Live Chat with Canvas Support. You can also contact digitallearning@georgefox.edu or call the IT Service Desk at 503-554-2569.
