Did you know that there is a way to register formal complaints?

While most student concerns and complaints can and should be resolved informally, there is a formal general complaint procedure described in the “Support for Students” section of the Undergraduate Student Handbook as well as on the Graduate/DPS Policies page of the website.

Please note that these procedures cover complaints of a general nature and do not supersede specific policies involving special cases such as grade appeals, sexual harassment, etc., which are covered elsewhere in the Student Handbook, Catalog or Graduate/DPS Policies.

Are you interested in working with a group of engineering students to help them better understand living with physical limitations? If so, we would love to work together!

Our focus as a servant engineering team is to better understand the challenges of living with physical limitations, in an effort to design and produce a prototype device to aid in everyday life activities! The limitation can be small or large; our goal is to learn more about all aspects of adaptive and assistive devices.

Would you like to participate in a pen pal program with a local retirement home resident? The elderly often experience loneliness and isolation, especially during COVID. But you can help change that! If you’re interested in being a part of this program, sign up here!

We will be launching a kickoff event on Friday, Oct. 22, on the quad, so feel free to stop by to pick up envelopes, or make a card for a resident in a memory care home. We’ll also have donuts!

We are currently hoping to kick-start a Bridge the Generations pen pal program between George Fox students and a few local retirement homes in Newberg to help foster relationships between generations. We hope that this will lead to edifying and memorable experiences for both the residents and our students.

Mail Services is moving! On Monday, Oct. 18, Mail Services will officially be its new space in the Roberts Center and no longer in the North Street Annex building.

We will be accessible from the doors facing Sherman Street. To prepare for the big move, we will be closed Oct. 14-17. Therefore, please come pick up your packages by the end of the day on Wednesday, Oct. 13.

The Voices Project Conference is back in person this year! We will be kicking off the two-day-long conference on Friday, Oct. 15, in Bauman Auditorium, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.

The event runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday in Bauman, and from 9:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday in Canyon Commons. This year’s theme is “Identity: The Beauty, Scars, Trauma, and Power of BIPOC.” Each year, the conference highlights multicultural and multiethnic leadership in the U.S. It’s open to all students and faculty and community members.

The mailroom will be closed on student payday this month, which is Thursday, Oct. 14, due to the school closure on Friday, Oct. 15.

If you have a paycheck to pick up, they will be available in the HR office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14, and then available in the mailroom again starting at 8 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 18.

Are you interested in studying abroad? The Center for Study Abroad is hosting a Study Abroad Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Canyon Commons.

Many of our off-campus programs will have representatives present, so come by to get information about different programs, countries, and their requirements. We will also be passing out information about the Center for Study Abroad application requirements and due dates.

There will also be a prize drawing of $500 toward a study abroad program of your choice for those who attend and participate.

A Monday Maintenance Reminder: Please do not use drain cleaner in the university drains.

Plant Services offers drain cleaning as a service. Dumping drain cleaner in the drain does not clear the drain, and only results in splashing our technician with acid when they clear the drain. Instead, if you have a slow drain, contact your RA to place a work request for a technician to clear the drain of debris.

Food should never be dumped down sink or drinking fountain drains. You can put food in lined bags and remove immediately to the outside bin (food like oatmeal, bread or rice that swells when in contact with liquid), or you can flush more liquid-type food down toilets instead (food like leftover ramen or soup).

Report any issues to your RA instead of trying rogue DIY methods. Plant Services has the equipment and knowledge to keep your space functioning well. Thank you!
