Here are some details about multi-factor authentication

November 3rd, 2021

By now, most of you have set up multi-factor authentication that you use when accessing login.georgefox.edu. Here are a couple things that you may want to know:

  1. Voice call authentication allows you to receive a phone call and hear a code. Calls can be easily forwarded from your office phone to any other phone number.
  2. When you get a new phone, you may not be able to authenticate. This disruption will keep you from accessing your email, Canvas or other items accessed at login.georgefox.edu. This could be particularly problematic when the Service Desk is closed.

We recommend that you set up more than one method of authentication. There are four methods available:

  • Okta Verify
  • Google Authenticator
  • SMS authentication
  • Voice call authentication

If you use Okta Verify or Google Authenticator, use SMS or voice call as a second option. Both Okta Verify and Google Authenticator apps will transfer to your new phone, but the account settings will not transfer over.

Questions regarding multi-factor authentication? Contact the Service Desk at servicedesk@georgefox.edu or 503-554-2569.

‘Companioning Our Shadow: Emotions & Relationships’ available via Zoom on Nov. 12

November 2nd, 2021

Did you miss the last “Companioning Our Shadow: Emotions & Relationships” course? If so, Michael Simmons is offering this course again via Zoom on Friday, Nov. 12, from 9 to 11 a.m. PST (noon to 2 p.m. EST).

Simmons is a spiritual director and retreat facilitator, and he serves on the leadership team with Companioning Center on the board of Deep Water, a local community that provides tools, processes and sacred spaces for women and men to heal. He is a doctoral student at Portland Seminary and an ordained elder in the Free Methodist Church.

Course info: Psychologist Carl Jung coined the term “shadow” to refer to the parts of ourselves we hide, repress or deny. Robert Bly called the shadow “the long bag we drag behind us.” We place all that would cause us pain and conflict into the bag, but it still holds incredible power to transform our lives, relationships and communities.

This course will be a space to invite Christ to meet our hidden parts and deepen that process of healing. Join Simmons as he explores and practices tools for companioning our shadow, particularly around our emotions and relationships.

The cost for attending the course is $39, and participants can register here.

If you have any questions, email Simmons at msimmons@georgefox.edu

Fall textbooks being returned to publishers

November 1st, 2021

It’s that time of year again, and unsold fall textbooks are being returned to their publishers.

If faculty members have titles that will be used later in the semester, they should urge students to purchase those books now. No one enjoys coming in for a late-used title and discovering it was sent back weeks ago.

Deadline to withdraw from classes is Sunday

November 1st, 2021

The last day for traditional undergraduates to withdraw from a class with a “W” grade is Sunday, Nov. 7. If you review your mid-semester grades and think it’s in your best interest to withdraw from a class, you must do so in MyGeorgeFox by following these instructions no later than 11:59 p.m. Nov. 7.

Withdrawal from a class records a “W” grade on your transcript. A “W” grade has no impact on your GPA. However, reducing your number of completed courses this semester may affect future semester planning. Be sure to check in with your faculty advisor or CAP coach if you have any questions.

Email registrar@georgefox.edu if you need more details.
