The Daily Bruin

The Chehalem Symphony Orchestra, made up of students and members of the community, will present a musical for children of all ages from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, in Bauman Auditorium.

The orchestra will perform Prokokiev’s Peter and the Wolf, Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, and Hadyn’s Symphony 99. There is no admission charge. For more information, contact Debbie Hawblitzel (Performing Arts) at ext. 2620 or dhawblit@georgefox.edu.

The next faculty business meeting is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 16. Boise employees will meet in the Boise Center’s conference room from 11:40 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to participate in the meeting via Polycom. Missy Terry (Academic Affairs) will be sending out the agenda, minutes, and proposals to faculty via Bruinmail.

The next faculty business meeting is scheduled from 10:40 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, in Hoover 105.
Portland and Boise faculty will participate via Polycom.

The next faculty business meeting will be hosted via video conferencing at the Portland Center. Faculty will meet in PDS Room 281 from 10:40 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, for the meeting. Refreshments will be provided.

Holiday luncheons will be served by the students of Family and Consumer Sciences on three upcoming Fridays – Nov. 16, Nov. 30, and Dec. 7. Each luncheon will include a chicken entree with seasonal accompaniments, soup or salad, beverage, and dessert. The cost is $8.

Lunches will be served from noon to 12:30 p.m. in Lemmons Room 4. Contact Helen Morse (Communication Arts) at ext. 2640 between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for reservations and any dietary accommodations.

Thank you for everyone who came to the women’s brawl Wednesday night – the Freshman had quite a surprise for all of us.  They stole the bruin before the flash, and did not bring it (or show up) to the brawl.  It’s awesome that it was stolen, but the ASC Supreme Court Chief Justice (Heather Eslinger) needs to needs to be informed of its whereabouts, and talk to the current holders about the next flash.

The 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, chapel in Bauman Auditorium will begin with a special presentation, coordinated by the Bruin Heritage Society. After a short video highlighting the university’s history, a group of dedicated alumni (from the 1930s through the  1960s) will sing the university’s official song, “Close Beside Chehalem’s Mountain.”

For many years the song, written in 1904 by several students, was taught to incoming students during orientation and sung after every sporting contest. More recently, the song has all but vanished from the campus.

The alumni who are participating are excited to share this piece of George Fox’s history with the current campus community. We hope you are able to attend and are touched by the love they have for their alma mater.
