In an effort to get to know the community better, President Robin and Ruth Baker are hosting a series of small-group desserts at their home. The first staff/administrator dessert, open to the first 15 people who e-mail Missy Terry (President’s Office), will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20.

Please note: There will be other dessert opportunities for staff/administrators as well as faculty groups in the future.

Welcome prospective students as they visit our campus for the Scholarship Competition Friday, Feb. 15 and Saturday, Feb. 16.

Avoid the crowds in the Bon by eating before 5:30 p.m. or after 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Please also avoid parking in the Steven Center lot so that visitors will have space to park.

Don’t forget to listen to KFOX Monday, Feb. 18 at 9:00 p.m. to hear “The Cheese Stands” alone with DJ Lauren.

Tune in again on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 7:00 p.m. to hear “The John and Jere Show” with special guest Joy Schneider to discuss her Ring by Spring dilemma. 

Continue listening Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. for “3 Nails No Duct Tape” with DJ’s John and Andrew. 

Our North building has gone to a cardlock system to increase preventative security for our staff that works there. Eventually our main south building will also be using cardlock system in the evenings.

To ensure that you can access the building in the evening once the system is up and running, please stop by the front office at your earliest convenience to have your card tested for encoding. If it needs to be encoded, our front office staff will be able to do that for you at that time. The process takes only 2-3 minutes.  

If you have already come by the front office and had your card encoded, please disregard this email.

The admissions office is hosting Scholarship Competition for prospective students this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15-16. This is an important event for prospective students to visit our campus. Please join us in offering up your Steven’s Center parking spots to our guests on Friday.

Parking is available for employees in the lots at Bauman Auditorium and Pennington Hall. Thank you for your consideration – it is greatly appreciated.

Elizabeth Holme in Print Services will work with the Office of Marketing and Communications in ordering general university (i.e. non-departmental stationery) letterhead and envelopes. You will continue to purchase all non-departmental stationery (including “second-sheet letterhead”) through her.

Baruch Meir, an associate professor at Arizona State University, will visit George Fox for the second installment of the university’s newly created Bösendorfer Artist Concert Series at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, in Bauman Auditorium.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and alumni, and $6 for students and children under 12. Tickets may be purchased at the box office by calling ext. 3844 or by visiting music.georgefox.edu.

In addition to Sunday’s concert, Meir will be offering a public master class to three piano majors – Joseph Forster, Beth Sellers and Becca Couch – at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, on the Bauman stage. There is no admission fee to attend the master class.

Meir, named a Bösendorfer Concert Artist in 2003, will perform works by Ravel, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, and Galuppi on Sunday. He has performed in Austria, England, France, Israel, Portugal, and throughout the United States.

He has presented solo recitals at the Bösendorfer Saal in Vienna, Austria; Murphy Hall in Los Angeles; and at the Toujours Mozart Festival in Salzburg, Austria. He also has presented master classes at the Music Academy in Vienna, the Rubin Academy of Music in Jerusalem, and universities in the U.S.

A native of Israel, Meir is a summa cum laude graduate of the Rubin Academy of Music of Tel Aviv University, where he earned both bachelor and master degrees in piano performance.

Save the date for the Spring All-Campus Retreat Friday, February 29 at 5:15 p.m. to Sunday, March 2 at 2:00 p.m.. 

The weekend will be spent at Twin Rocks Friends Camp in Rockaway Beach.  Come for a weekend of fun, great food, and relaxation with guest speaker Jon Furman of Grace Chapel in Wilsonville.

The university’s annual Health and Benefits Fair is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, in the Cap and Gown Room. This is the kickoff event for Benefits Open Enrollment; watch for more information about that soon.

The fair is a great opportunity to talk to your benefit reps as well as health and wellness professionals without cost or commitment. Get your hearing tested, test your antioxidants, and check your body fat (and then stop for food samples). Event also includes door prizes.

Quaere Verum will continue to sponsor a time of prayer for Kenya every Wednesday in the Foxhole, at least until the end of the Lent. Please join the group at 5 p.m. and pray for this country in such a time of conflict and turmoil.
