Tom Head (Fall 2008) will conduct a one-semester project, “Biblical Perspectives on Economic Justice.†Gary Kilburg (Fall 2008) will continue work on a research proposal, “The Good Shepherds: Addressing Resistance in a K-12 Mentoring Program for All Teachers.†Mike Magill (Fall 2008) will pursue work on “Serving Christ as a Design Engineer for Engineering Ministries International (EMI)†and will use his structural engineering background to design facilities for Christian organizations around the world. Roger Newell (2008-2009) will work on a project titled “From Resistance to Revolution: Political Theology in Germany from Barmen (1933) to Leipzig (1989).†Paul Otto (2008-2009) will conduct research on “Beads of Power: Wampum and the Making of Early America.†Kent Yinger (2008-2009) will research, write, and initiate publication of a book for a general Christian audience tentatively titled A New Perspective on Christian Salvation.
Joel Perez (Student Life) presented “Act Six Leadership Initiative: A Practical Strategy for Campus Change and Urban Transformation†at the inaugural Christian in Diversity Conference in Pomona, Calif., on April 23.
Brent Weaver’s (Performing Arts) musical work Snapshots for piano and winds will be performed in concert by the Alder Street Sextet, a Portland ensemble, at First Presbyterian Church of Portland June 1 at 3 p.m. Also, his work Devotional for cello and piano will be presented this summer at the Music08 Festival at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music June 15-22 in Cincinnati. He will also be participating in the festival, which features contemporary composers Steve Reich and Frederick Rzewski and the ensemble Eighth Blackbird.

Security Services personnel have noticed many unlocked bicycles left unattended around campus since spring break, and unfortunately, a few have been stolen. Please secure your bicycle at all times with a good lock, and move it to the area where you are currently living on campus.
If you are going to be gone for the weekend or an extended period of time, please put your bike in your apartment. If your bike is currently stored at a bike rack, please mark it with your name by Thursday, May 22. After that date, all bikes not identified as belonging to somebody currently working or residing on campus for the summer will have the chains cut, and they will be stored in the Coffin basement to reduce the attraction to potential thieves.
Any bikes not claimed by the end of September will be donated to charitable causes. Thank you for your cooperation.

George Fox is in the process of formulating teams to participate in the community’s Relay for Life event, scheduled from 6 p.m. to 2 p.m. on June 20-21 at Newberg High School. Several George Fox students participated in the filming of an MTV TRL show that will air this Thursday, May 15 at 3:30 p.m. The students were in New York for a fashion merchandising and design study tour and attended a premier of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. They were asked to return the next day to interact with the movie’s stars in the filming of the MTV show.
Please join the School of Management for a farewell reception for Sandee Robinson from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, in Hoover 103. Sandee has served the SOM the past two years as administrative assistant for the school and its Doctor of Management program. She also has served as an undergraduate adjunct faculty member. Sandee is planning to continue her graduate work and pursue her love of teaching.
George Fox is teaming up with the Newberg community to organize a SOLV-sponsored work day in Hess Creek Canyon on Saturday, May 17. Work crews will meet from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and assignments will include digging two fish swales, removing ivy (no poison oak is present), creating a link between trails, and spreading gravel.
Participants will meet in the Wheeler/Le Shana parking lot, where they will be assigned to a work team. The Newberg Rotary is providing about 100 volunteers, and Clyde Thomas (Plant Services) is seeking university volunteers who would be willing to join them.
Also, there is a need for about 10 individuals to be team leaders. It would involve a half-hour of orientation prior to May 17, either individually or as a group.
