Gain first-hand insight into your future career before you even graduate by attending Professional Preview Day Wednesday, Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the GFU Portland campus.

Professional Preview Day is an event that allows students to spend the day with local professional George Fox alumni who are currently flourishing in their career field.

Registration information will be sent to your George Fox bruinmail account on Friday, Oct. 24.

For questions or to turn in registration information, stop by the Registration/Information table in the SUB Monday, Oct. 27 through Wednesday, Oct. 29.

Registration packets may be turned into the Career Services Office, located on the 2nd floor of Stevens, by 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3.

Do you know a George Fox senior who demonstrates outstanding service as a servant leader on campus or in the community? Please nominate them for the C.W. Perry Servant Leadership Award. The deadline to do so is Friday, Oct. 31.

Five seniors will be selected to receive the award. Each recipient will receive $1,000. The award recipient will be required to set aside $250 for a charitable organization of their choice, with the remaining $750 to be distributed to the award recipient in the form of a cash reward. Only seniors are eligible for the award. There is not a limit on how many students you can nominate.

Do you sing or play an instrument? Audition to perform the National Anthem for the 2008-2009 Bruin basketball season Thursday, Oct. 23 from 7-9 p.m. in the Wheeler Gymnasium.

The Staff Development Committee anticipates your attendance at this year’s conference with guest speaker Dan Brunner (Seminary). The theme of the event is “Where Do I Fit? Finding Your Piece of the Puzzle.”

The conference runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at Family Life Church, 502 St. Paul Highway, in Newberg. Come and see how we all fit together into this community called George Fox University.

The university is selling a 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis GS that was formerly driven by Dave Brandt and Dana Miller. It is light blue and has 106,000 miles on it. Selling as is. Call Plant Services at ext. 2010 to see the car and arrange for a test drive. If interested, make an offer in writing and turn in to Plant Services by 4:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27.

Congratulations to Patti Odenweller (Registrar’s Office), winner of the iPod Touch that was generously donated by our University Store for the long-term care insurance meetings. A Peace and Justice Symposium is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, in Hoover 105. Local pastors Kevin Kopsa, Gregg Koskela and Ron Thomason will speak about how they address the issues of politics, church life, peace and justice in their ministry. In particular, they will speak about how they handle campaign issues in their ministry.

The symposium is sponsored by the Center for Peace and Justice. Note that the location is different from previous symposia.

Rosters for intramural 3-on-3 basketball and dodgeball are due this Friday, Oct. 24, at 9 p.m. Schedules will be posted next Monday and play will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 29.

Volleyball playoffs begin this week (the schedule is on the website and the IM board in the Student Union Building), and football playoffs begin on Nov. 1.

The Graduate Department of Counseling is changing the name of its on-campus clinic. The Portland Center for Counseling and Family Therapy is now called Individual & Family Matters, a Counseling Service of the Graduate Department of Counseling.

Individual & Family Matters is a nonprofit educational and counseling clinic offering therapeutic services to families, couples, individuals and children/adolescents. It is staffed by advanced graduate students supervised by American Association of Marriage & Family Therapy-approved supervisors and George Fox University faculty supervisors. Ellen R. Minshew, MS, LMFT, is the director of the clinic, located in the Portland North Building. More information is available at 503-554-6060.

The Health and Counseling Center will host a walk-in flu shot clinic from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at the Portland Center, in Room 155B. The cost is $15. Pioneer Education Health Trust will cover the cost. Please note Kaiser Insurance offers free flu shots to members at local Kaiser facilities.

We are looking for students or groups willing to share their culture by having a booth at the Cultural Fair. The fair is scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, in the Ron Gregory Atrium in EHS. If you enroll with the paper enrollment form in the packet, it must be submitted to HR by the deadline. Bring, fax or e-mail the completed form to Peggy Kilburg or Lisa Burton (Human Resources). Our fax number is 503-554-2186.

Spouses of employees also can have premiums payroll deducted. To begin coverage Dec. 1 (for a Dec. 31st deduction), however, a spouse’s enrollment must be done by Friday as well. Spouses and other family members may enroll at any time and will be required to complete a medical questionnaire as part of the enrollment process.

Need a costume for Halloween? Maybe just looking for neat clothes and accessories? Alpha Psi Omega and the university’s theatre costume department are clearing out many of the items from their shop. Stop by the Ron Gregory Atrium in EHS between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, or between noon and 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19. Costumes are only $5 or less.
