Why not kick off your Family Weekend with music? This is a reminder that two concerts will be presented this weekend at George Fox. “An Evening of Jazz,” featuring jazz artist Dominique Eade and the George Fox University Jazz Band and Faculty Jazz Trio, is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, in Bauman Auditorium.

On Saturday, Nov. 8, a Fall Concert begins at 4 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium. Come listen to the Chamber Singers, Women’s Chorale, Concert Choir, Early Music Ensemble and Symphonic Band.

Both concerts are free.

Sign up for the Fall Retreat this week during lunch in the Bruin Den starting Wednesday, November 5.  Bring $17.00 and you will get a free t-shirt!

The Fall Retreat is November 14-16.

The university’s theatre department invites the community to its fall musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Nov. 6-9 and Nov. 12-16 in Wood-Mar Auditorium. Performances take place at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 6-8 and 12-15 and at 2 p.m. both Sundays, Nov. 9 and 16.

The play, directed by Teresa Thuman, is set in the early 1920s, when small-town girl Millie Dillmount moves to New York City. There, she encounters the jazz and glamour of the city, as well as danger and intrigue. The play was adapted from the 1967 Oscar-winning film of the same name, starring Julie Andrews and Mary Tyler Moore.

Employees receive one complimentary ticket, available for pick-up at the University Store. Students are welcome to see the show free of charge on Thursday, Nov. 6, and Wednesday, Nov. 12, and may pick up those tickets at the University Store. The cost is $10 for general admission, $8 for seniors and alumni, and $6 for students and children under 12. To purchase tickets or find out more, visit theatre.georgefox.edu.

TEN! TEN! TEN! is a series of one act plays directed by students from the Directing for Theatre class.  If you are normally too busy to participate in a main stage show, this is a great opportunity for you to get involved.  If you are cast, the student director will work around your schedule.

TIME: Monday 7-11 p.m. & Tuesday 6:30-11 p.m.

Audition Format:

Please come prepared with a 90-second contemporary monologue (this is required for theatre majors, minors & scholarship students). There will also be cold readings available if needed.

If you are interested in auditioning, please sign up on the sheet posted on the door to the Theatre and Fine Arts Offices (Ross 101).

Callbacks will be posted on the Wood-Mar Auditorium door by midnight on Monday, Nov. 10.

Mail Services is an unofficial drop site for all Oregon county ballots. We accept any Oregon county ballot (no postage necessary). The deadline at our drop site is 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov 4. Oregon ballots going through the U.S. Mail may not reach the election office in time. You can use the drop site on campus to make sure your ballot gets to the election office on time.

The university will host a Global Issues Forum Monday, Nov. 3. In the 10:40 a.m. chapel service that morning, Corey Beals (Religious Studies), Laura Simmons (Seminary), Ron Stansell (Religious Studies) and student Leilani Jackson — all of whom have recently spent time in Rwanda and/or surrounding countries — will speak on “Love Your Enemy: Rwanda, Burundi and Congo.”

That night, the second segment of the forum, “Love Your Enemy: Part Two,” will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Lemmons 8.
Simmons, Dan Brunner (Seminary), Craig Johnson (Management) and student Stacy Turner will be presenters. The topic of the forum will be “loving and forgiving our enemies,” according to Lon Fendall (Center for Global Studies/Center for Peace and Justice).

Please take a few minutes to submit your October time sheet (support staff) or time-off report (administrators) to your supervisor right away. As always, please be sure it is complete, accurate and signed by both you and your supervisor before sending it to HR at Box 6108. (If your supervisor is not available to sign it, please send a copy to HR and keep the original until it has been signed.)

These documents are available on the HR website. A tip to help you remember to do this each month: Set a recurring appointment on your Outlook calendar for the first business day of each month with a brief notation, “Turn in time sheet.” That gives you one less thing to have to remember, allowing you to save your brain space for important stuff.

Student supervisors, please submit your students’ October time sheets to HR right away. Please be sure the student’s name is legible on each one and use the new cost center numbers.

Also, don’t forget to sign the time sheet and be sure the students did as well. (If the student is not available to sign it this week, please send it without the signature; HR will hold the check until the time sheet is signed.) If a student delivers his or her own time sheet to HR, it must be in a sealed envelope — a FWS regulation.

The Staff Development Committee would like to say a big thank you to everyone who participated in the Love INC non-food pantry drive. Together, we collected dozens of boxes for those in need, including 3,383 toothbrushes, 558 rolls of toilet paper, 485 containers of dental floss, as well as lots of shampoo, conditioner, baby products, shaving supplies, household cleaners, body soap and more.

Thank you for demonstrating love for our neighbors in need.

The university’s iTunesU site, devoted to higher education podcasting, is now included in Apple’s public search through the iTunesU tab under the iTunes Store. This marks an upgrade to the site’s profile, as previously George Fox’s site was not searchable in the larger community of iTunesU.

As part of the university’s Family Weekend next week, the Department of Performing Arts is putting on its Fall Concert at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, in Bauman Auditorium. Come listen to the Chamber Singers, Women’s Chorale, Concert Choir, Early Music Ensemble and Symphonic Band. Admission is free.

The university now has its own Enterprise website to reserve and pay your car and van rentals used for university business. We will be having a training session at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, in Stevens 101. If you book vehicles for your use or your department’s use, please plan to attend. Refreshments will be provided. Two quick notes for users of our Information Commons computers.

1. Six of the computers have now been updated to Microsoft Office 2007 for those who wish to use this newer version of the software.  The updated machines are numbers 13-18 and are located closest to the Reference Desk.
2. Also, we have a new scanner to replace the one that broke over the summer.  It is on computer 18 on the far wall.  Instructions for using the scanner are provided.

A limited number of flu shots are still available at the Health and Counseling Center. Please call ext. 2340 to schedule an appointment Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
