• Christmas carols and candlelight devotional service at the Centennial Clock Tower

6:30-8:30 p.m. (in Stevens Center, Hoover, EHS atriums)

• Photos with Santa
• Craft activities

Seminary dean Chuck Conniry will speak at the university’s auxiliary luncheon at noon Friday, Dec. 5, in the Cap and Gown Room. Reservations are required, and tickets are $7.50 per person. Conniry will present a report on the seminary and share his vision for the future. Students from the Research Methods class are conducting a study this semester and need your help.

Come to Hoover 210 at 4, 4:15, 4:30, or 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 25 to participate in this study. Sparing just 15 minutes (or less) of your time will help.

Both the Bruin Den and Villa Cafe will close at 2 p.m. on Wednesday and reopen on Monday, Dec. 1.

Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, Wednesday, Nov. 26, is the last business day of the month, making it our November pay day.

Having an early pay day is nice, but it does mean a five-week stretch before our next pay day, which, despite the Christmas and New Year holidays, is still Dec. 31.

This Monday, Nov. 24, the Liberal Arts and Critical Issues program will host 42 senior exhibits on different aspects of Islam and the West from noon to 3 p.m. in EHS and Hoover. For more information, contact Caitlin Corning (History) at ext. 2637 or ccorning@georgefox.edu.

Each year, the Department of Performing Arts presents a Christmas Concert allowing you to experience the Christmas story. This year’s presentation, “O Holy Night!,” is scheduled Friday through Sunday, Dec. 12-14. The concert features more than 175 musicians from five ensembles in the main-stage performance, and preconcert music featuring six of the university’s chamber ensembles (note preconcert time changes from previous announcements).

Three presentations are scheduled:

Friday, Dec. 12, 7:30 p.m. (preconcert music begins at 6:30 p.m.)
Saturday, Dec. 13, 7:30 p.m. (preconcert music begins at 6:30 p.m.)

Off-campus performance at Village Baptist Church in Beaverton
Sunday, Dec. 14, 2:30 p.m. (preconcert music begins at 2 p.m.)

Ticket information
All faculty, staff and students receive one free ticket that can be picked up at the box office in the University Store. Additional tickets may be purchased in person at the box office or by calling the office at ext. 3844. Tickets also are available at music.georgefox.edu. Tickets are $10 for adults; $8 for seniors and George Fox alumni; and $6 for students and children.  The concert features reserve seating, so if you have a favorite seat, make sure you save it now.

The Orbis Cascade Alliance, in conjunction with Online Computer Library Center (OCLC), is finalizing work on the new Summit catalog. Summit is the system for ordering books and media from other academic libraries in Washington and Oregon.

On Monday, Dec. 1, the catalog will have a new look and functionality. With one search, this new catalog will allow you to discover materials from both the Summit system and the WorldCat catalog. The service will remain the same, but there will be some changes. Many of these changes are expected to be temporary as we migrate to the new system.

For your convenience, we have listed many of these changes on a link off the library homepage. If you have any questions, be sure to ask a library staff member or a librarian. The library is excited to bring you better searching and discovery tools.

A copy of Grandma Zula’s Legacy is now available for staff and faculty to check out. Please stop by the Office of Student Life, located on the third floor of the Stevens Center, to check out the DVD. The film is a documentary about racism, community service and activism during the 1940s-’70s in Portland.

The women’s basketball games scheduled in the Wheeler Sports Center for Friday and Saturday, Nov. 28-29, at 4 p.m. have been moved up two hours to 2 p.m. Please note the time change.

ASC Missions is hosting a night of prayer for India this coming Monday, Nov. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the prayer chapel. This is the first of a series of prayer meetings lifting up the nations in prayer.

The next, and final, Bruin Brawl of the semester will be on Saturday, Dec. 6. We’re gonna see who’s really hardcore enough to fight for Bruin Jr. when it counts!

Women, it’s your chance again.

Remember, the goal is for your class to possess Bruin Jr. The Brawlin’ is only half the battle. You can swipe Bruin Jr. between Brawls and get twice as many points for your class. Poor sportsWOMANship can cost your class points as well, so keep it legit.

And if that’s not enough, this Brawl is going to be refereed by ASC Activities Director Amber Shore.

The ASC Supreme Court wants to let you know that things have been changing with Bruin Jr. We’re getting back to the heart of the tradition: we want to restore the focus to possession of Bruin Jr., class pride, and a healthy dose of competition!

Some of the flashes may not be as epic, but we’re still gonna aim for creativity and awesomeness! One day, Bruin Jr. might just get whipped out of a backpack and the Brawl could start right there. That’s old school! Swiping Bruin Jr. between Brawls is always legit. But first you have to find him.

It was an interesting Bruin Brawl indeed!

It seems the juniors didn’t have what it takes to get out there and Brawl.  Freshmen, sophomores, and seniors were ready and willing to go!  In their colored shirts, the freshmen class had the highest number of participants and will receive 20 Class Pride Points.  Current points are posted in the SUB.

Unfortunately, two members from each class must be participating for a Brawl to be legit.  Therefore, the freshmen still possess Bruin Jr., but will not receive points for getting him off campus.

This is a reminder that the movie On a Wing and a Prayer, a documentary about an American Muslim who fulfills his American dream by learning to fly, will be shown at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, in Hoover 105. Monem Salam, the man in the film, will be at the presentation to answer questions after the showing. There is no charge and, for students, chapel credit is available.

For those who did not have the opportunity to contribute to the collection that was taken in chapel for the people of Westmont College, the Office of Student Life will be collecting until 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 20. Feel free to swing by and make a donation.

Westmont experienced significant damage to several buildings on its campus after a fire that broke out Nov. 13.
