As the university’s locksmith, it is imperative that I keep accurate records of which keys have been issued and to whom they’ve been issued. I have had difficulty maintaining my key records because of people passing on their keys to other people either when they leave George Fox or when they move to another department. In many cases, people have passed on their keys to someone else apart from my knowledge or simply left them somewhere in their former workplace.

All keys are issued from Plant Services, and when people no longer need them they are to be returned to Plant Services. They are not to be passed on. There have been cases in which master keys have gotten lost and never accounted for. This constitutes a major breach of security. If keys were to get into the wrong hands, there is no telling what the consequences of this could be.

If you have moved from one department to another during your tenure at George Fox and still have keys from your old department, please return them to Plant Services. I am asking for your cooperation in this so that we can maintain campuses that are safe for our students and employees.

Employees are invited to attend an all-community meeting from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, in Hoover 105. The meeting will provide employees an opportunity to receive campus updates. Your participation is strongly encouraged.

Students, staff and faculty, your last chance to reunite with your lost items will be this Friday, Dec. 12, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Bruin Den. All items not claimed by their owners will be donated to charitable causes by Dec. 19.

Please join the university community in saying farewell to Al Zimmerman (Planned Giving) at a reception from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, in the John and Marilyn Duke Atrium in the Stevens Center. Refreshments will be served.

Al is leaving the university to serve as executive director of the Portland-based Northwest Christian Community Foundation, a conduit for generating gifts in support of a wide range of Christian ministries. Al has worked at George Fox for three years.

The university community is invited to participate in Kaleo, George Fox’s annual conference designed for those who engage with youth. Shane Claiborne will speak on the theme “Ordinary Radicals.” A conference summary: “We desire our youth not to simply be believers in Christ, but followers of Christ – ordinary people living radically in the love of Jesus Christ, called to bring forth another world among us.”

Since Melissa Rosenberry decided to stay home and be a full-time mom following the birth of her daughter this fall, the university needs to fill an administrative assistant I (Pay Range 3) position in undergraduate admissions.

The schedule will likely be 32 hours per week for nine months each year and 25 hours per week during the summer. This position is currently open only to internal applicants (employees). Please e-mail hr@georgefox.edu to obtain a copy of the job description and transfer request if you are interested in applying. A completed transfer request, cover letter and resume must be submitted to HR no later than Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 5 p.m.

 BlueZone: Your School-Your Spirit-Your Experience

The Baker family invites you and your family to their annual Christmas open house from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at the Edwards House at 402 S. College St., in Newberg.

We look forward to you joining us for light appetizers and holiday sweets as we celebrate the Christmas season together!

The George Fox Dance Performance class will present “So we think we can dance” at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, in the Wheeler Sports Center gym. Come join us for 30 minutes of entertainment and lots of good laughs. The students have worked hard in preparing for the show, so come relax, laugh, have fun and cheer them on.

The Portland Center is hosting the Wassail Party for all Portland Center students and employees on Thursday, Dec. 11, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the main lobby area.

For those not familiar, wassail is a warm spiced cider drink. There will be Christmas goodies and finger foods sponsored by each of the departments throughout the day. You are welcome to come and go and enjoy the goodies and the occasional carol sing-a-longs at any time during the day.

Employees are welcome volunteer to host the table or bring goodies to share.

Undergraduate psychology is hosting a psychology majors Christmas lunch from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, in Cap & Gown A. The university community is invited to bring a lunch and join the faculty in decorating Christmas cookies. Cookies, Christmas music, and general fun will be provided.

Starting January 2009 the tracking of chapel attendance and other events on the Spiritual Life calendar will be facilitated through the office of Spiritual Life.

For all students who have a ‘spiritual formation requirement’ (chapel requirement) starting in January 2009 you will contact the office of Spiritual Life if you have any questions about your chapel attendance or possible exemptions. The office of spiritual life will also monitor any deficiencies at the end of the semester. HOWEVER, the rules that are currently in the handbook will still apply.

For the FALL 2008 semester, chapel credits will continue to be monitored by Jere Witherspoon in the Student Life office.

If you are deficient in your spiritual formation credits in the fall you will need to reconcile them with Jere in the Student Life Office.

The university’s IT department never asks for you to supply personal information in an e-mail. There are numerous e-mail messages currently being used to try and deceive people into divulging personal information to unknown recipients. The e-mails try to pass themselves off as official and are sent to .edu and .org e-mail addresses. Do not respond to these e-mails. The senders of the messages are identity thieves.

This mail is to inform all our {EDU WEBMAIL} users that we will be upgrading our site in a couple of days from now. So you as a subscriber of our site you are required to send us your mail account details so as to enable us know if you are still making use of your mail box.

Further informed that we will be deleting all mail account that is not functioning so as to create more space for new user. so you are to send us your mail account details which are as follows:
