Four art classes are in need of models for several sessions each.  Try one or more and get paid for sitting still!  You must be eligible for employment (have documentation to fill out an I-9 form or have worked on campus before).

The Department of Performing Arts is pleased to present an array of performances this week. All events will be held in Bauman Auditorium unless noted.

On Tuesday, Feb. 24, the Chehalem Symphony Orchestra will perform a 7:30 p.m. concert under the direction of Ben Brooks in its first concert of the semester.

On Wednesday, Feb. 25, Sharayah Bodnar, bass clarinetist and mezzo-soprano, will present a junior recital at 7:30 p.m.

On Thursday, Feb. 26, the department’s small chamber ensembles will present their first concert of the semester. Featured will be the university’s String Ensemble, Early Music Ensemble, Flute Ensemble, Handbell Choirs, Low Brass Ensemble.

On Friday, Feb. 27, a vocal master class is scheduled in Ross 208 from 12:40 to 1:30 p.m. That same evening, Libby Tate, soprano, will present a senior recital at 7:30 p.m.

To cap off the week, on Saturday, Feb. 28, Rachel Consenz, soprano, and Nick Grant, baritone, will present a junior recital at 7:30 p.m.

Please join us in supporting our students. Admission for all performances is free.

Enrollment packets for benefits should be arriving via campus mail by Monday. Most of them will arrive in a handy envelope provided by Allegiance. However, it’s not just about the flex plan. This envelope includes your custom benefit election form that must be signed and returned to HR by Monday, March 16. We just used the envelopes provided by Allegiance to send all of your information. So look for it and don’t toss it!

Please note: The film Grandma Zula’s Legacy will be shown in Stevens 101 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Monday, March 2. This is a location change from the original announcement. All employees are invited to attend.

Last summer, Oregon Field Guide came to the University of Portland and filmed a segment on the hummingbird flight bio-mechanics and energetics work Don Powers (Biology) and Bret Tobalske have been doing the past several years. This segment will air on OPB TV at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, and again on March 1 at 6:30 p.m.

Come celebrate homecoming week with the Department of Performing Arts as the department presents its homecoming concert featuring the Symphonic Band, Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, and Women’s Chorale. The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, in Bauman Auditorium. Admission is free.

A car wash fundraiser is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Newberg Les Schwab. Come and support members of the 2009 May Serve team as they raise money for their trip to South Africa to work with Monte Christo Ministries. Make a donation to a good cause and get your car washed too.

If there is any possibility that you will use tuition remission during the 2009-10 academic year, whether for yourself, a spouse, and/or dependent(s) be sure to complete a Tuition Remission Request Form for each person and submit it by Monday, March 2.

Go ED. is a semester study abroad program of Food for the Hungry that seeks to transform the next generation to own and end poverty. Go ED. is a cross-cultural experience that engages your head, hands, and heart in the problem of poverty and God’s transformational power: both physical and spiritual; globally and within yourself.

Go ED. seeks to promote and provoke this transformation in young people through four core program components:
Shared life in international community,
Guided Christian spiritual formation
Supervised field practicum placement in development work
Rigorous and relevant academic curriculum.
