On Monday, April 13, the students in Liberal Arts and Critical Issues (GE Senior Capstone) will be presenting 40 research exhibits on the Future of the American Dream from noon to 3:30 p.m. in the EHS and Hoover atriums. All are encouraged to attend. This is also an excellent opportunity for juniors taking GEED 490 next year to gain a better understanding of this part of the course.

In honor of the University Store’s annual PJ sale on Thursday, April 16, clothing and gift items will be reduced 25 to 50 percent off, with select merchandise reduced up to 75 percent off. Only one catch: You must wear your PJs to qualify for these great savings.

The artistic talents of senior art students will be on display on the Newberg campus during the university’s Senior Thesis Exhibit April 14 through May 2.

An opening reception for the exhibit is scheduled from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, in the Minthorne Gallery. There is no admission charge for the event, which will be showing in both the Minthorne and Lindgren galleries. The gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Lindgren Gallery will feature work by Megan Florio, Joel Krebs, Leah Morris, Jennifer Morse and Mary Saunders. The Minthorne Gallery will feature work by Rachael Brazo, Alisha Fuzi, Jeffery Austin Salzwadel, Rusty Tasto and Nicole Wood.

In addition, senior thesis graphic design portfolio presentations are scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, in Hoover 105. Senior graphic design majors include Shaina Farrer, David Olson, Jennifer Prickett, Courtney Sell, Sean Thomas, Ken Watson and Ryan Wilmot.

Mark your calendar for these exciting upcoming events hosted by the Department of Performing Arts. All events will be held in Bauman Auditorium and admission is free.

At 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 13, the Spring Chamber Concert will feature the Clarinet Ensemble, String Ensemble, Piano Ensemble, Handbell Ringers, the Low Brass Ensemble “Heavy Metal,” Flute Ensemble, and the premiere of the George Fox Beginning Band.

On Tuesday, April 14, the Chehalem Symphony Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m.

On Friday, April 17, the final Students in Recital of the year is scheduled at 12:40 p.m. Performing will be Tiffany Hayes (alto), Bethany Taft (piano), Signify (eight-person choir), Beth Sellers (piano), Emily Yarnold (soprano), Rachel Consenz (soprano), Nick Grant (baritone), Ben Jackson (baritone), Matt Hill (trumpet), Emily Blanshan (flute), Aimee Smith (oboe), Nick Luchterhand (alto saxophone) and Sarah Buckler (clarinet). Providing accompaniment will be Debi Huddleston, Barbara Stewart, Joseph Forster and Cameron DeWhitt. The event will feature the original work of student composers Aimee C Smith, Rebecca Chromey and Joseph Rourke IV.

The final performance of the year will be the Spring Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 24, and will feature the Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Women’s Chorale and the Symphonic Band.

If you lose your pay statement, you can now access it online.

To do this:
-  Log in to http://mygfu.georgefox.edu (Add it as a favorite or bookmark now.)
-  Enter your username and password to get into the PeopleSoft menu
-  Click on Self Service from the menu on the left 
-  Click on Payroll and Compensation
-  Click on View Paycheck and you will see all of your paychecks as far back as October 10 listed. 
-  Double click on the date in the far left column of one you need to open.  It is a pdf file that can be printed.

Applications are available for ASC Communications committees including The Crescent, KFOX, L’Ami (yearbook), and the Darkroom.  All applications must be returned to the ASC Supreme Court Chief Justice by Monday, April 20.

Students making a service trip to Nicaragua this May are selling bracelets with the message “Esperanza” (hope) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, April 9, in the Bruin Den. Come support our students as they raise money for a trip during which they will serve a ministry that rescues at-risk girls on the streets. Come learn more!

The Student Life Office is hiring student employees for the 2009-10 academic year.

Responsibilities and duties include:
1.  Share office duties with other students: mail pick up and delivery, receptionist duties, switchboard coverage as needed, triage of students, photocopying, filing and other duties as assigned.
2.  Organize and monitor shared office supplies.
3.  Create bulletin boards and other types of creative communication endeavors.
4.  Data entry.

Qualifications:
1.  Eligible for federal work study.
2.  Previous experience in an office environment.
3.  Interest in Student Life programs and willingness to serve students.
4.  Excelling communication skills.
5.  Integrity and maintenance of confidentiality.
6.  Ability to understand and follow instructions.
7.  Knowledge to operate a variety of office equipment and computer programs including:
   -  Microsoft Word
   -  Excel
   -  Access
   -  Website maintenance a plus
   -  Propensity to learn new software systems.
8.  Initiative, accuracy and the desire to pay attention to detail.
9.  Self motivated.
10. Team player.

ASC Missions is accepting clothing donations between April 7 and April 17. A sale will take place in the quad, with proceeds going toward Transitions Global’s effort to set up a safe house for sex-trafficked girls in Portland. Drop off items in the barrel in the Student Union Building, and look for a sale the last week of classes.

Stonyfield Farms Yogurt has issued a recall for its quarts of Organic Fat Free Plain Yogurt with code dates of May 6-7, 2009.

Sold only in grocery stores, the UPC number is 52159 00006 with time stamp of 22:17 through 23:59. No other Stonyfield products are affected by this recall. Bon Appetit does not purchase this brand for George Fox.

Stonyfield Farms has received several reports of customers noticing an off-taste when eating the product, but have not received any reports of any illness of any kind after consuming the product. You should contact your retailer if you need more information.

There is still time to sign up for the university’s tour of Alpine Europe to see the Passion Play at Oberammergau, Germany, in early-summer 2010. There are currently 20 people registered for the trip.

Open to all employees, students, alumni, parents and friends of George Fox, the 11-day tour, departing May 31, will include visits to the beautiful European cities of Frankfurt and Munich, Germany; Salzburg, Austria; and Lucerne and Interlaken, Switzerland. Among many other highlights, the tour will include travel through the Rhine Valley, Black Forest, and the Swiss, Austrian and Bavarian Alps. Additionally, visits are planned to Neuschwanstein and Heidelberg castles, and Rothenburg, Germany’s best-preserved medieval town.

The highlight of the trip will be the Passion Play, an inspiring one-day play that dates back nearly 375 years and is performed for sold-out audiences every 10 years in a magnificent outdoor covered amphitheater with the Bavarian Alps as a backdrop.

The George Fox Medallion Search is back!

Taking place the week of April 13-17, all students can participate in this exciting campus treasure hunt, with the winner receiving a $200 cash reward.

A custom-engraved medallion will be hidden somewhere outside on the George Fox University Newberg campus. It will not be buried and no structures need to be disturbed or climbed to find it.

Starting Monday morning, one clue will be revealed each day at 10 a.m. of the week-long event. Clues will be sent as a Facebook message to all members of the Bruin Heritage Society Facebook Group. The Portland Center will be closed Friday, April 10, for Good Friday. On Saturday, April 11, the Portland Center Library will be open regular hours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The building will be locked on Saturday, so students and employees will need to use their ID card for access to the facility.

Celebrate Oregon Arbor Week this week by planting trees in Hess Creek Canyon on Tuesday, April 7. We will be meeting on the bridge at 3 p.m. and working until 7 p.m., but feel free to join us whenever you can. Trees, tools and snacks will be provided, so just come ready for some light work. The canyon is the backyard of our campus; come help make it better.

With the deadline for filing our tax returns just over a week away, this might be a good time to be sure you still have your W-2, which is required to be filed with your taxes.  If you have lost it, you can get a replacement W-2 for a $5 replacement fee. 

If you need one, please email HR at hr@georgefox.edu with your request and include your ID number.  It may take 2 business days to process a replacement W-2, so please submit your request by Thursday, April 9 if you will need one.

You will be notified by email when your W-2 is ready.  Please bring $5 with you when you come to pick it up.  This cannot be handled as a payroll deduction on a future pay check.

You can still work on your tax return while you wait for your W-2 by using the information from your December 10 pay statement.  If you don’t still have it, it is available online as a PDF:

Go to http://mygfu.georgefox.edu to get to the People Soft login screen.  Use the same user ID and password that you use to log in to email and Bruindata. Open “Self Service” in the menu on the left and click on “Payroll and Compensation.” You will see a list of all of your pay statements that have been processed in PeopleSoft (beginning with our first payroll on October 10). Click on the pay date in the far left column labeled “Check Date” to open your statement as a PDF file.
