Janelle Townsend (Marketing Communications) married Joseph Olivarez in a small ceremony in Newport on July 11. The couple followed the wedding with a honeymoon in Hawaii. Janelle now goes by the name Janelle Olivarez.

Don Powers (Biology) and his wife, Theo, celebrated the marriage of their son, Sean, to Carlie Finley on Aug. 1. The wedding took place in Portland. Both Sean and Carlie are George Fox graduates.

Chris Young (Site Coordinator, Boise) and her husband, Don, celebrated the marriage of their son, TJ, to Cherie Blake on June 27. The wedding took place in Independence, Ore., at the Green Villa Gardens. The couple resides in Nampa, Idaho. TJ and Cherie are alumni from the class of 2008.

Continue to pray for Lon Fendall (Center for Global Studies and Center for Peace and Justice) and his wife Raelene, who recently lost their daughter, Joyce Wilkinson. Joyce, 37, is survived by three children: Kaitlyn (16), Chris (12) and Jocelyn (9). If you would like to send a card or note to the Fendall home, their address is 16295 N.E. Financial Affairs is offering a training session on how to create purchase requisitions in PeopleSoft. It is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Sept. 2, in the Wilhite House (Surf Shack).

The session is a repeat of the sessions offered earlier in the summer. Learn to create a purchase requisition and monitor the requisition through the approval and PO process. Please R.S.V.P. to Karon Bell or Sheila Abercrombie if you will attend.

The University Store’s back-to-school hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, through Sept. 11. The bookstore will also be open this Saturday, Aug. 29, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 In the past, students have received a $15 print credit for their use at the beginning of each semester. Unfortunately, this credit will no longer be available for students. Printing is now pay-as-you-go. You may load print money buy purchasing print cards at the Portland Center Library desk and loading them onto your “Paper Cut” account.

The faculty courier will be running again this year between the hours of 9 and 11 a.m. Monday through Friday. A message from Mail Services: The courier will leave the Newberg campus after Friday’s all-employee meeting, arriving later than usual at the Portland Center.

Be sure to turn in your requests for library course reserves no later than Wednesday, Aug. 26, if you wish to have them processed before school starts. The form can be found online.

Requests are processed in the order that they are received and can take up to five days to complete. The beginning of the semester gets a little backed up, and we would appreciate your help by getting your requests submitted as soon as possible. The Serve Day committee needs your help for the evening carnival on Wednesday, Sept. 9. If you would be willing to help run a game booth for one hour, please contact Michelle Conrad or Danya Ochsner. The shifts available are 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. or 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The university community is invited to learn how to apply foundational biblical principles to basic business concepts at a three-day intensive course.

The Portland Center also will host a one-hour session on biblical entrepreneurship from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4. It will include a 30-minute presentation by Wende Jones, a BE-certified teacher, a panel discussion, and an audience Q&A with the panel.

Also, you are invited to hear about biblical entrepreneurship directly from course founder Patrice Tsague on Wednesday, Sept. 16, when he speaks at the monthly Northwest Christian Chamber of Commerce lunch meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Hayden’s Lakefront Grill, 8187 S.W. Tualatin-Sherwood Road, in Tualatin.

All university employees are requested to attend an all-community meeting scheduled from 8 to 11 a.m. this Friday, Aug. 21.

Activities will begin at 8 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the campus quad to commemorate the recent Klages Dining Hall remodeling project. A breakfast buffet in the dining room will follow. At 9 a.m., the all-community meeting will begin with worship in Bauman Auditorium.

Due to the Annual Library Meeting on Wednesday, August 19, the Portland Center Library will be closed all day.  We hope this doe not prove to be too great an inconvenience for any of you.

The university’s library will be migrating its catalog and related software to a new server on Thursday, Aug. 13. Foxtrax and library databases will be unavailable from 8 a.m. until Thursday evening.

Access to Mail Services will be limited because of street maintenance scheduled through Thursday, Aug. 13.

• Access is limited to walking only through Tuesday, Aug. 11.

• On Wednesday, Aug. 12, Mail Services will be closed all day.

• Thursday is limited to walking access only.

A Message from GFU University Mail Services

New Undergraduate Students:

All new students, residents and commuters, have been issued a mailbox assignment.

We will start putting mail into your mailbox on Thursday, August 13.

You will pick up your mailbox key during the Orientation on Thursday, August 27.

If you have received an email notification regarding an incoming package, you may pick up the package at University Mail Services, located in the North Street Annex at the corner of the track and tennis courts, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  We will hold all packages here until you arrive on campus.

Returning Undergraduate Students:

Since most of you kept your mailbox key over the summer, you will be all set when school starts.

If you returned your mailbox key, please stop by University Mail Services and ask for the key.

If you have lost your mail box key, you will need to stop by University Mail Services when you arrive on campus and pay for a new mail box key.

We will stop forwarding US mail on Thursday, August 13.  Your mail from that date on  will be in your mail box when you come back to campus.

Packages will be held at Mail Services beginning on Monday, August 10.

IT has begun a multiphase wireless upgrade over the next few years. On Tuesday, Aug. 11, the Newberg campus wireless access points will change names. The reconfiguration of the wireless devices will take several hours and will begin at 7 a.m. The current wireless access points names GFU-NEWBERG will be replaced with FOXWIFI. You will no longer need a WEP key to connect; rather, you can sign in using your university login. Specific instructions will be sent to your mailbox early next week.

This will not impact the other campuses at this time.
