On-Campus Summer Housing Applications Available

Applications for on-campus housing this summer are available in the Student Life Office. They are due Friday, April 23rd by 5 PM.

Tilikum’s 10K run, 5K walk/run returns on April 10

Tilikum Center for Retreats and Outdoor Ministries will host its eight annual “Go the Distance” 10K run and 5K walk/run at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 10, at Champoeg State Park in St. Paul. Funds raised will help under-resourced children and youth go to summer camp.

Participants raise money by securing financial sponsors who pledge a donation per kilometer the participant runs. There is also the option of a 5K walk/run for adults and younger children. The entry fee or minimum donation is $35 for adults and $5 for children under 12.

More information about the run can be found online at camptilikum.org. Check-in begins at 9 a.m.

Volunteers needed for Empty Bowls for Haiti event April 16

Help is needed for the Empty Bowls for Haiti event scheduled for Friday, April 16, in the Klages Dining Hall.

Multiple shifts are available that day for student, faculty and staff volunteers. Please consider signing up for Shift 1 (1-4 p.m.), Shift 2 (4-8 p.m.) or Shift 3 (7:30-11 p.m.). Sign up on the spreadsheet outside of the ASC offices or e-mail your name to Krissy Findley (kfindley@georgefox.edu) by Thursday, April 8.

2010/11 Financial Aid – IMPORTANT

Student Financial Services will soon be notifying you via email of your financial aid for the 2010-11 academic year.   It will be held up, however, if SFS is required to verify your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).  Please check online at www.mygfu.georgefox.edu within your “to do” list.  Check to see if tax forms and a verification worksheet are listed as documents required.  If so, verification will need to be completed before your financial aid is calculated and available for you to view online.  Also, pay close attention to any other documents requested by  FAFSA such as signature or citizenship documents.  If you have any questions, please contact your financial aid counselor

Bible reading will take place in quad April 5-9

University closes April 2 to observe Good Friday

The university’s offices and libraries will be closed on Friday, April 2, to observe Good Friday. The Newberg library will be closed Friday and Sunday but will be open between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday. The Portland Center library will be closed Friday through Sunday.

HR seeking nominations for April Employee of the Month

This is your last opportunity for this academic year to nominate a support staff member or administrator for Employee of the Month. As always, your e-mail should include the person’s name, job title, a concise but specific summary of this person’s recent contributions (past 30 days or so) to the university, its students, and/or its employees (what was done, who was impacted, etc.), and any other information that you believe makes this person deserving of this award.

Please submit your nomination by Friday, April 16, via e-mail to Peggy Kilburg at pkilburg@georgefox.edu. The President’s Executive Leadership Team will then select the recipient from the nominations submitted. The winner will be announced at the all-community meeting on Thursday, April 22, and will receive a $100 gift card to The Allison.

‘Unplugged’ event scheduled in quad Thursday

Don’t forget to support “Unplugged,” an evening of acoustic music, conversation and a bonfire scheduled from 8 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 1, in the campus quad.

Attendees will play instruments and roast homemade smores over the fire. The event encourages people to “unplug yourself from electricity and reconnect together,” according to event organizers. Bring an instrument to play, turn your phone off, unplug your computer, and be sure to turn your lights off before heading over.

Please note correction to choir’s rehearsal dates

Please note a correction to the rehearsal dates for the university’s mass singing of Vivaldi’s Gloria. Practices will be on Mondays and Tuesdays April 5-6, 12-13 and 19-20, between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. in Ross 208.

All those with singing experience are invited to join in singing with the choir at the final concert of the spring semester, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 23, in Bauman Auditorium.
