If you are a street motorcycle rider, we want to hear from you so we can send you an invitation. Also, let us know if you are interested in the longer Tillamook Route (185-225 miles), or the short ride through Yamhill County Wine Country (100-125 miles).

Career Services is offering a free job search workshop series in May. “Strategy Tools for the Job Seeker,” the first of  six sessions, kicks off the series on Tuesday, May 11, at 4 p.m. in Stevens 220. Sign-ups are available on the Career Services website. Attend one session or all six!

Faculty and staff are encouraged to pass this information along to graduated seniors and recent alumni.

While parking is a bit more relaxed during the summer, certain parking regulations still remain in effect. Please do not park in the visitor rows in the Hoover and Stevens lots so the campus is welcoming to our numerous visitors. Loading-only spaces and marked reserved spaces are still enforced, as are the 10-minute spaces by Mail Services.

Also, all yellow curbs are no-parking fire lanes, and handicapped spaces can only be utilized with a valid handicapped permit. We are also hosting some very large events in the following weeks and months and ask that you please be sensitive about where you park during these events.

Students can park close to their residences regardless of their 2009-10 parking permit designations. Both students and staff may be asked to park in non-staff lots when we host big groups such as Genesis.

The WLDI (Women’s Leadership Development Initiative Committee) hosted a panel session on the Newberg campus on Wednesday, April 14. Panelists Patrick Allen, Linda Samek, Dirk Barram and Clyde Thomas spoke with attendees about their experiences coaching and leading alongside leaders who are women.

The discussion is available online to all employees at georgefox.edu/womens-leadership. Topics include mixed gender leadership teams, leadership qualities, and steps women can take to advance into leadership opportunities.

The School of Business’ Justine Haigh, associate professor of marketing, will present “Beyond corporate social responsibility: What about the consumer?” at a summer speaker series event Friday, June 11. Haigh will speak from 7 to 9 a.m. at The Grand Hotel at Bridgeport, located just off I-5 at the Durham Exit in Tualatin.

Presentation synopsis:
With all the hype these days about corporate social responsibility (CSR), we seem to enjoy finger pointing, blogging, and tweeting about unruly organizations and their failure to adhere to the law, ethical standards, and/or international norms. Caught up in these debates, however, we seldom think about how our own consumption patterns may actually harm the social good. So, how do we rationalize our conduct? What do we tell ourselves to justify recent purchases from organizations that we know do not practice socially responsible behavior?

Haigh will present a cross-cultural comparison of ethical consumer behavior. In exploring these issues, corporations’ ethical principles will be considered, but importantly the focus will be on each of us – the global consumer – and how we position ourselves as morally justifiable in our behaviors.

We accept any Oregon county ballot, and there is no postage necessary. The deadline for this drop-off site is 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 11. All out-of-state ballots must be mailed with postage.

Avoid the August rush! Now is a great time to request new summer or fall course sites, archive and reset courses, and export grades to a spreadsheet for safekeeping. For new course sites, contact the IT Service Desk and include the course number and name and also whether you want content from your existing course site copied to the new site.

Baccalaureate is this Saturday, May 1 at 9:30 a.m. This is your last opportunity to worship together as a class.  You should line up for Baccalaureate at 8:30 a.m. in the Ross Center Room 208 with your GOWN ON, but NO CAP.  Doors will open for parents at 8:30 a.m. in Bauman.   The faculty speaker is Dr. Corey Beals and the senior speakers are Jon Ciraulo and Shereen Sherman.  

Baccalaureate is one hour and then you are dismissed to move to your departmental receptions.

Please join President Baker and your Newberg campus colleagues at 3 p.m. Monday, May 3, in Wood-Mar Auditorium for our annual employee recognition event.

The president will share year-end remarks, and the event will feature presentations for service awards and employee of the year awards, as well as a time to honor six retiring members of our community. Immediately following, refreshments will be served in the Ron Gregory (EHS) Atrium.
