As we move into August, please consider nominating a deserving colleague for the August Employee of the Month award. As always, your nomination should include the person’s name, job title, a concise but specific summary of this person’s recent contributions (past 30 days or so) – what was done, who was impacted, etc. – and any other information that you believe makes this person deserving of this award.

Please submit your nomination by Monday, Aug. 16, via e-mail to Peggy Kilburg. The President’s Executive Leadership Team will then select the recipient from the nominations submitted. The winners for both the July and August awards will be announced at our community meeting on Friday morning, Aug. 20, and will each receive a $100 gift card to The Allison.

Every Newberg employee should have received an e-mail indicating their Serve Day assignment for 2010. If you did not receive an e-mail, please let us know by e-mailing serveday@georgefox.edu.

Sign and Submit your July Timesheet to your Supervisor!

Don’t forget to turn in your July timesheets to your supervisor at the end of your shift Saturday, July 31st, or the last day of the month that you are working. Be sure your name is typed or printed legibly at the top, it is complete and accurate, and you have signed it.  Payday is on Monday, August 16th.  Thank you!

Student supervisors: Payday is Monday, Aug. 16. For HR to meet this deadline, we need your students’ July time sheets by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4.

Please be sure the student’s name, ID number and cost center number is legible on each one. Also, don’t forget to sign them and be sure the students did as well. Please do not send students to HR to sign their time sheets.

The university is again hosting Selah, a one-day seminar for women, on Saturday, Sept. 25, from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium. The theme of his year’s event is “It’s time to Simplify. Discover the biblical truth that less is more.”

The university community is invited to meet head women’s basketball coach candidate Corey Laster at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, July 19, in Hoover 105.

Laster is currently the first assistant coach for the women’s basketball team at Bucknell University (D-I). He was also the head women’s coach for Defiance College in Ohio (D-III) and Taylor University in Indiana (NAIA). He and his wife are members of Missionary Alliance.

Please come meet Corey and hear about his approach to the basketball experience.

Scott Rueck, the coach who guided George Fox to a 2009 national D-III women’s basketball championship and seven conference titles in 14 seasons, has written an open letter to thank the university community for its unwavering support over the years. Rueck announced earlier this month he was leaving George Fox to take the head women’s basketball job at Oregon State University, his alma mater.

Join us in celebrating Vickie Timmons’ retirement! An open house reception will be held at the Pennington House garden from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, July 22. Just come around the side of the house to the backyard.

Meek is currently the head girls basketball coach at Southridge High School. His teams have won five of the last six Class 6A state titles. He is very well recognized in the broader basketball community as an excellent coach and one who is committed to the education of students. He and his wife are members of Beaverton Foursquare Church.

Elizabeth Holme (Print Services) will work with the Office of Marketing Communications in ordering general university (i.e. non-departmental stationery) letterhead and envelopes. You will continue to purchase all non-departmental stationery (including “second-sheet letterhead”) through her.
