The Dance Committee has reposted the applications to select individuals to participate on the committee. The applications are going to be posted outside of ASC on the ASC board. Please review the application and fill it out if you are interested in participating. Applications are due October 22nd by 5:00pm.

The university’s annual Salsa Dance is set for next Saturday, Oct. 16, from 8 to 10 p.m. in Wheeler Sports Center. The dance will feature live instruction for the first hour for those interested in learning. Refreshments and dance contest prizes will be available.

Copies of the voters’ pamphlet for the Oregon general election are now here. Pick one up from the counter by the Associated Student Community offices and Bruin Den or get one from the counter in the hallway of Mail Services. The pamphlet has information about the canditates running for office as well as the different measures that are on the ballot.
Thank you to the 155 employees who responded to a request earlier this month to update your ethnicity and race information to allow the university’s data to be in sync with the new reporting requirements of the U.S. Department of Education.
There are still about 350 employees who have not yet taken time to do this; hence, this second request. Your voluntary self-reporting will help the university (and Sheila Abercrombie in particular) more easily and accurately report this data (in aggregate only) on reports such as IPEDS.
If you have not already done so, would you please take just a minute or so to update your information now?
1. Log into MyGFU.
2. Navigate to Self Service > Campus Personal Information > Ethnicity. (The message in the screen mentions “students†but it is applicable to employees as well.)
3. If you indicated racial/ethnic information to George Fox in the past, it will be shown. Respond to the questions, and check the “The information is correct as entered†box.
4. Click Submit.
Again, reporting your race and ethnicity is voluntary but it is very helpful to us as we assess our programs and serve our diverse world.

The IJM chapter at GFU deals in large part with the issue of sex-trafficking on both a global and local scale, and what steps we can do to combat it. The Fitness Center in the Wheeler Sports Center will be closed Thursday, Oct. 7, at 5 p.m. until Monday, Oct. 11, at 6 a.m.
Several new George Fox University employees will be introduced at a George Fox Auxiliary luncheon at noon Friday, Oct. 15, in the Cap and Gown Room. Reservations are required and tickets are $7.50 per person.

Tickets are now available for a Wednesday, Oct. 27, concert featuring musical guest Gungor in Bauman Auditorium. Tickets for the 8 p.m. concert can be purchased at the Bruin Bookstore for $10 (faculty and community). The event is free for George Fox students. Tickets will also be available at the door.
Gungor is a musical band born out of a journey of learning what it means to be a follower of Jesus. Their philosophy is that their music would serve as a means to an end, to change people, and be a part of God’s kingdom. According to Michael Gungor, the group’s music speaks to the spiritual journey that happens when we follow God in trusting him to “make beautiful things out of the dust in our lives, that God will somehow use us, use our obedience and love, our feeble human effort, and build himself a kingdom.â€

Sidney Tafflinger was hired for the coordinator III position in the Office of Career Services last week, replacing Christee Wise, now an administrative assistant in the School of Education. Sidney worked previously at Linfield College, where she was an administrative assistant for the school’s facilities services department over the past year. Before that, she worked for two and a half years as a student assistant for the career development center at Anderson University in Anderson, Ind. Sidney earned a bachelor’s degree in family science from Anderson in 2009. She and her husband Ryan, a computer specialist in the IT department, live in McMinnville and attend McMinnville Covenant Church.
