An art exhibit opening in Minthorne Gallery next week is the final product of research done by senior Richter Scholar Mariah Carrillo. The show, “Stories Reborn: Heritage and Innovation in Native Art of the Pacific Northwest,†will run Thursday, Oct. 28, through Monday, Nov. 22.
The show begins with an artist talk at 4 p.m. on Oct. 28, followed by a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Hoover Academic Building.
The exhibit focuses on the contemporary renaissance of Native American art in the Pacific Northwest. The pieces exhibited will include work from local artists such as Chuck Williams and Greg Robinson and will also showcase a variety of different media such as photography and printmaking.
Carrillo spent the summer in Seattle and Vancouver, B.C., compiling a research catalog that includes the history and work of local Native artists and information about all the contributing artists. Carrillo also selected all the artists, installed and arranged the art for the show, and set up artist talks and planned the opening reception.
Randy Woodley (Seminary) will do a traditional sage burning at the beginning of the reception to bless the show.

The all-employee meetings originally scheduled for Oct. 28 and Nov. 24 have been canceled. Instead, an all-employee meeting is scheduled from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 15, in Bauman Auditorium (note the location change).

As a reminder, a tuition remission information session will be presented online at 1 p.m. (PST) Thursday, Oct. 21. The session is meant for anyone who is interested in receiving more information regarding tuition remission, tuition exchange and admissions.
The intended audience are those who are preparing (either for themselves or someone they know) for undergraduate admissions for the 2011 year. This is a repeat of the on-campus meeting that was held in September.

The Northwest Conference Fall Classics for the men’s and women’s golf teams, which count as one quarter of the score for the overall 2010-11 NWC golf championships, will be held this Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 23-24. The men will be at Juniper Country Club in Redmond, Ore., the women at the Lost Racks Golf Course in Bend, Ore. The Bruin women are the defending NWC Fall Classic champions.

The GFU International Club will be going to Baggenstos Pumpkin Patch this Saturday at 10 a.m. We will meet in Le Shana parking lot at 9:45 and take vans to the pumpkin patch and corn maze, we will then come back to GFU and carve pumpkins and eat pizza for lunch. This is a reminder that the university will host Rutgers professor Andrew Murphy for a public lecture, “Persecuting Quakers? The Politics of Conscience in Early Pennsylvania,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, in Hoover 105.
