Recently, the U.S. Department of Education implemented new race and ethnicity categories that require responses to two questions rather than one. This allows for better reporting given the changing makeup of our nation’s population. You might recognize these questions from the 2010 U. S. Census form.
We would appreciate it if students responded to the new questions to enable us to better comply with the new reporting requirements (on IPEDS and other reports).
To do so:
1. Login to MyGFU.
2. Navigate to Self Service > Campus Personal Information > Ethnicity.
3. If you indicated racial/ethnic information to George Fox in the past, it will be shown. Respond to the questions, and check the “The information is correct as entered†box.
4. Click Submit.
Again, reporting your race and ethnicity is voluntary, but it is very helpful to us as we assess our programs and serve our diverse world.

The Bruin Bookstore Textbook Annex is in the process of returning all overstock textbooks to publishers in anticipation of the Nov. 1 transition. All online textbook ordering has been disabled for all programs. The textbook annex will be closed during this process.

If you are dealing with cancer of a loved one this is the place for you. We will be meeting this Friday Oct. 29 from 10:40-11:30 in Hoover 206. It can be extremely hard and stressful being here at school with someone in your family back home dealing with cancer. This will hopefully be a time for students who are going through this to support each other and receive prayer. The university will host jazz saxophonist Allan Chase, who has performed with some of the nation’s top jazz musicians, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, in Bauman Auditorium. The concert is being hosted in conjunction with Family Weekend.
All employees and students are entitled to one individual complimentary ticket, available for pick-up in the Bruin Bookstore. Additional tickets cost $10 (good for a family of four), and can be purchased by calling the University Box Office at ext. 3844, online at familyweekend.georgefox.edu, or in the lobby the night of the concert.
Chase will be the featured artist at the fall jazz concert, performing with the university’s Jazz Ensemble and a faculty trio. He is chair of the ear training department at Berklee College of Music in Boston and leads the Allan Chase Trio and the Allan Chase Quartet. Chase has been a soloist on 35 jazz recordings and performed with artists that include Rashied Ali, Joe Morris, Gunther Schuller and John McNeil.

Tickets are now available for the university’s fall theatre production, Euripides’ Ion. The show is a world premiere of Paul D. Streufert’s translation of the Greek tragedy.
Show dates are Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 4-6, and the following Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 11-14, in Wood-Mar Auditorium. Performances are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. each night with the exception of the Sunday, Nov. 14 show, scheduled as a 2 p.m. matinee.
All George Fox University employees receive one complimentary ticket. Students will be admitted free on both Thursdays. Your complimentary ticket is only available at the Box Office in the Bruin Bookstore. Additional tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for alumni and seniors, and $6 for students and children under 12. Share your culture by having a booth at the Cultural Fair on Tuesday, Nov. 16, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Bruin Den. At your booth you may choose to share your culture through music, dance, videos, pictures, crafts, games, and, of course, the all-time favorite: food. So come join the fun!

The new “Forever” stamp is now available at Mail Services. It will always be worth the price of a one-ounce first class letter stamp – no matter what increases occur.
Drop by and pick up a booklet for Christmas cards. Each $8.80 booklet of 20 stamps contains views of the foliage and cones of four different conifers: ponderosa pine, eastern red cedar, balsam fir, and blue spruce. These and other Christmas stamps are now available.
Mail Services is an unofficial drop site for all Oregon ballots. Arrangements have been made with the Yamhill County elections office for us to offer this service. We accept any Oregon county ballot, and there is no postage necessary.
The deadline for this drop-off site is 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 2. All out-of-state ballots must be mailed with postage.

Halloween is just around the corner! Come and join us on Halloween for a game of Screamin’ Sardines that will be played in the quad and surrounding academic buildings. After the game, we will all gather in the Cap and Gown Room for the movie Clue. Treats will be provided!

The Liberal Arts and Critical Issues lecture series continues Monday, Oct. 25, with a panel of Christians sharing personal experiences about being neighbors to Muslims, both in America and abroad. Examples of what it means to be neighbors will be followed by descriptions of challenges and rewards as people know and learn from each other.
