The first Fox French Film Festival continues this Saturday with a double feature:

• 6 p.m. – Coco Before Chanel stars Audrey Tatou (Amelie) as the world-famous fashion designer before she became famous.
• 8:30 – Paris Je T’aime, a collection of 18 five-minute stories set in the 18 districts of Paris by international directors including Gus Van Sant and the Coen Brothers.

Both films will screen in EHS 102, with complimentary French snacks available between shows. Tickets are $3 per film, and are available at the door. The Fox French Film Festival is presented by the French and cinema programs, thanks to a grant from the French-American Cultural Exchange.

The university community is invited to the final Faculty Research Forum of the semester, to be held Friday, Nov. 5, from 10:40 to 11:30 a.m. in Hoover 105. The forum will feature Rebecca Addleman, Carol Brazo and Tatiana Cevallos speaking on their research in leading MAT students through the transformative learning experience of intercultural immersion.

Join our student-led social experiment and make a statement against “Islamaphobia” in America by wearing a hijab, or head scarf, on Thursday, Nov. 4. You are also invited to a talkback session that night at 6 p.m. in Hoover.

Headscarves can be picked up for free in the Bruin Den on the day of the event. The event is being sponsored by a student research group in the Islam and the West class.

Sign and Submit your October Timesheet to your Supervisor!

Don’t forget to turn in your October timesheets to your supervisor at the end of your last shift of the month. The last day of the month is Sunday, October 31st.  Be sure your name is typed or printed legibly at the top, it is complete and accurate, and you have signed it.  Payday is on Monday, November 15th.

Student supervisors: Pay day for student employees is Monday, Nov. 15. For us to meet this deadline, we need your students’ October time sheets by Wednesday, Nov. 3, by 5 p.m.

Please be sure the student’s name, ID number and cost center number is legible on each one. Also, don’t forget to sign them and be sure the students did as well. Please do not send students to HR to sign their time sheets.

On Thursday night, Oct. 28, Bon Appetit will serve a buffet dinner celebrating the bounty of the fall season. Honey-baked hams, hand-foraged coastal mushrooms, butternut squash, Waldorf salad, hot apple cider and pumpkin cheesecake and lots of other goodies will be served. We’re also planning on live music!

Please join us for a wonderful feast between 4:30 and 7 p.m. in the Klages Dining Room. Non-meal plan students and guests pay $8.25 at the door.

There will be a meeting for all pre-professional health students on November 9 at 6 pm in EHS 102.  This is a very important meeting to discuss applications and admission requirements for all health related schools, AND what it takes to get into these schools.  This includes schools such as, medical schools, dental schools, physical therapy, pharmacy, veterinary, etc.  We will also be discussing ways that George Fox can be of help in these areas.

If you are interested in a health field this will be an essential meeting for you.  You will have the opportunity to sign up as a pre-professional health student so that we can keep you informed of application and admission information.   If you cannot attend please email Jane Sweet (jsweet@geoergefox.edu) so that we know that you are interested.

The Portland Youth Philharmonic, led by conductor and music director David Hattner, will present a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, in Bauman Auditorium.

The concert program includes Ives’ Variations on America; Bernstein’s Serenade, featuring violin soloist Jun Iwasaki; and Hanson’s Fanfare and Third Symphony. Iwasaki is the concertmaster with the Oregon Symphony who has worked with the Portland Youth Philharmonic for a number of years.

The event is free and open to the public. No tickets are required. For more information, call 503-223-5939.

The presentation is a free preview of PYP’s fall concert to be held in the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6.

The men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete in the Northwest Conference Championships Saturday, Oct. 30, at Ft. Steilacoom Park in Lakewood, Wash., the men running an 8K at 10 a.m. and the women a 6K at 11 a.m.
