Come play in creation with Experiential Ministries on November 13th! Meet in the Bruin’s Den at 9:00 AM. We’ll be back around 3:00 PM.

We will spend the day kayaking the lower Clackamas River. There is no charge for students, but there are only 11 spots available. No experience is required.

Pick up a liability form outside the ASC offices and return it to the ASC offices ASAP in order to secure your spot.

Wondering where Development has gone? Come and find out on Monday, Nov. 8, between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. The Office of Advancement invites you to attend an Open House at our newest offices at Coyote Place, 700 Deborah Road, Suite 100, in Newberg.

Come and see some old friends and meet a few new ones, too! Cookies and punch will be served.

Get some sun and dirt time. Drink some apple cider. Thursday (Nov 4) at 5:30 p.m. come help put the community garden to bed. Whether you are part of the garden or not, come join the fun!

We’ll be doing some final harvesting and preparing the beds to sleep over the winter. We’ll also have some apple cider to enjoy this autumn event! The community garden is located just north of the Villa Academic Complex and is near Coffin Hall.

The university community is invited to two concerts on campus this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 5-6.

Jazz Concert
On Friday, jazz saxophonist Allan Chase will perform with the university’s Jazz Ensemble and a faculty trio at 7:30 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium.

All employees and students are entitled to one individual complimentary ticket, available for pick-up in the Bruin Bookstore. Additional tickets cost $10 (good for a family of four), and can be purchased by calling the University Box Office at ext. 3844, online, or in the lobby the night of the concert.

Family Weekend Concert
On Saturday, the university’s Family Weekend fall concert is scheduled at 4 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium. Admission is free. The event will feature performances by the university’s Women’s Chorale, String Ensemble, Men’s Ensemble, Concert Choir and Symphonic Band.

Come audition for “Doubt” and Ten!Ten!Ten! (GFU’s ten-minute play festival) Saturday, November 6th from 10AM to 1PM in Wood-Mar. Sign up in Ross for a time slot between 10am and 1pm.

Theatre majors, minors, and scholarship students need to prepare a memorized 90-second contemporary monologue, but all others may choose to cold read a monologue provided at the audition.

The Bruin Bookstore will be open this Saturday, Nov. 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for Family Weekend. Come check out the sale on this year’s new product: Sweatpants, regularly priced at $19.99 each, will be two for $30, and select hoodies, normally $29.99, will be two for $40.

All other imprinted clothing and gifts will be 20 percent off! The Family Weekend sale will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Friday and Saturday.

Commuters: Come grab some breakfast and fellowship this Friday with fellow commuters. The goal of this is to connect with one another and create more of a community amongst commuters. This will be happening the first Friday of every month.

We’ll meet in Stevens 209 from 10:40 to 11:30 a.m.

Faculty: Please remind your students to write their name clearly (readable) and include their box number on all class papers. If Mail Services cannot read the name and there is no box number, the paper will not be delivered.

Students, Mail Services needs your help! Please, make sure your name and box number are clearly written on all your class papers. Many faculty return class papers though the campus mailbox syatem.  If personnel at Mail Services cannot read your name and box number, the class paper will not be delivered to you.

A student-led group invites you to participate in wear-a-hijab day Thursday, Nov. 4, as a way to show support for Muslim women in America. Help challenge the negative stereotypes attributed to Islam and felt by Muslim women who choose to wear the hijab. The event is being hosted by the Islam and the West student research group.

Headscarves donated by the university’s Muslim Student Association can be picked up in the Bruin Den between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. A talkback session is scheduled in Hoover 103 at 6 p.m. that night. Hope to see you there!

The Center for Peace and Justice/Center for Global Studies invites all George Fox undergraduates to submit up to three poems in the spirit of William Stafford.

Three students will be selected to win $50 and guaranteed placement in a poetry anthology honoring Stafford. The submission deadline is Dec. 8.

Please nominate a colleague that you believe is deserving of the November Employee of the Month award. Your nomination should include a concise but specific summary of the person’s recent contributions (past 30 days or so) and any other information that you believe makes this person deserving of this award.

Please submit your nomination via e-mail to Peggy Kilburg by next Friday, Nov. 12. The President’s Executive Leadership Team will then select the recipient from the nominations submitted. Both the October and November awards will be presented at our community meeting on Monday afternoon, Nov. 15, and each will receive a $100 gift card to The Allison.

Career Services’ annual BYOS/BYOP open house is this Saturday during Family Weekend. Students, this is a great opportunity to explore the resources that Career Services has to offer. Be sure to bring your parents, too!

The event will include refreshments, games, our new Career Services video, a career chat with Bonnie Jerke, director of Career Services, and demos of all of our software programs and resources. Join us from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6. Come for the whole event and enter to win prizes just for showing up!

Barbara is senior vice president and market executive of U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management, where she has been employed for 37 years. She has management responsibility for two offices in Portland and Vancouver. Barbara has served on the university board of trustees for 17 years and also participates on boards for Transitional Youth, United Way Campaign, Medical Teams International, and Employers for Excellence in Education.

From her wealth of experience, Barbara will share with us her leadership journey and thoughts about mentoring and being mentored.

The Women’s Leadership Development committee invites all women employees on the Newberg campus to join us for this event as we continue exploring leadership development. Please bring your own lunch to this event. Beverages and cookies will be served.

Tickets are still available for the university’s fall theatre production, Euripides’ Ion. The show is a world premiere of Paul D. Streufert’s translation of the Greek tragedy.

The show runs this Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 4-6, and the following Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 11-14, in Wood-Mar Auditorium. Performances are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. each night with the exception of the Sunday, Nov. 14 show, scheduled as a 2 p.m. matinee.

All George Fox University employees receive one complimentary ticket. Students will be admitted free on both Thursdays. Your complimentary ticket is only available at the Box Office in the Bruin Bookstore. Additional tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for alumni and seniors, and $6 for students and children under 12.
