Missions Fair

George Fox’s annual Missions Fair is coming up on Monday, January 24th. There will be many missions organizations here to give you information on both short-term and long-term mission trips. There will be organizations based around medical work, teaching, engineering, and aviation to name a few. Please stop by the Cap & Gown room (next to the Bon) from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm to check out all the possible missions opportunities available to you!

Due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, Jan. 17, both the Villa Cafe and Bruin Den will be closed that day. They will resume their normal hours on Tuesday.

The hours of service in Klages for students on meal plans will also change slightly this weekend. Please note the following changes:

Saturday & Sunday
Breakfast: 8-10 a.m.
Brunch: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Dinner: 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Monday
Breakfast: 8-10 a.m.
Lunch: 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Dinner: 4:30-7 p.m.

Banana Bob offers late-night snack options

A senior capstone class is offering students the option of ordering late-night snacks that can be delivered to dorm rooms. Banana Bob’s hosts its grand opening at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, in the Bruin Den.

The business offers:

  • Late-night snacks (fresh fruit, Cup of Noodle, candy bars, etc.)
  • Free on-campus delivery
  • Delivery from Banana Bob himself
  • Low prices

No tickets remain for Oregon Symphony concert; wait list created

No tickets remain for the Oregon Symphony Orchestra concert hosted by Austin Industries and George Fox University on Jan. 21. This means that additional tickets requested by employees who picked up their original two tickets will not be available. Employees who have not picked up their original two tickets will be put on a waiting list to receive returned tickets.

If you have tickets but find you will not be able to use them, please return them to Barbi Doran at the main switchboard through Jan. 20. If they become available at the last minute and are being held under your name, they can be collected from Sheri Philips in Bauman Auditorium after 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 21.

Opening for director of academic computing

The university is seeking to fill the position of director of academic computing, vacated with the passing of our colleague, Russ DeVore. This position is currently open only to internal applicants (employees). Please e-mail hr@georgefox.edu to ask for a copy of the job description.

University closes Monday, Jan. 17, to observe MLK Day

The university will close Monday, Jan. 17, to observe the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. There will be no day or evening classes or chapel at the Newberg campus, and the Portland Center, Salem Center and Boise Center will be closed. Libraries at all campuses will be closed as well.

Friday is final day to sign up for MLK Day of Service

Friday, Jan. 14, is the last day to sign up for the MLK Serve Day happening on Monday, Jan. 17. Join seven other universities in serving the city of Portland. All volunteers will meet at 7 a.m. on Monday and return to campus the same day no later than 5 p.m.

Bruin Bookstore will be open on MLK Day

January 13th, 2011

The Bruin Bookstore will be open on Monday, Jan. 17 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day). All textbook purchases or returns will be handled in the store, located in the Student Union Building, due to the library being closed. Bookstore hours next week are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Nominations open for January Employee of the Month

It is time to think about nominating a colleague for the first Employee of the Month award for 2011. If you know of someone whose recent contributions make him or her worthy of this honor, please take a few minutes to send an e-mail to Peggy Kilburg that includes a specific summary of the person’s contributions (past 30 days or so) and any other information that you believe makes this person deserving of this award.

The deadline for nominations is Thursday, Jan. 20. The President’s Executive Leadership Team will select the recipient from the nominations submitted. This award and a $100 gift card to The Allison will be presented at our community meeting on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 26.
