With housing selection coming up in just over a month, there are a few details students should be aware of for the 2011-2012 selection process.

1) Students 21 years old or older and students with senior status (93+ credits) as of the first day of classes (August 29, 2011) will be eligible to live off campus.

2) A $150 non-refundable housing deposit will be paid in order to be eligible to go through housing sign ups.

Details about the housing deposit:

1)     You will be able to pay your deposit now through March 11^th in order to go through housing selection.

2)     You will need to have a current account (as determined by Student Financial Services) in order to pay your housing deposit.

3)     The deposit may be refunded if you withdraw it prior to housing selection or do not go through housing selection. If you withdraw your deposit prior to selection, then you will not go through selection.

4)     Once you have received a housing assignment your deposit will then be applied toward your fall charges.

5)     The housing deposit will be forfeited if you cancel your housing after receiving an assignment.

6)     If you will be living with an RA or chosen by an RA to live in a house you will need to submit your housing deposit in order to keep your housing assignment.

Note: Students who are eligible to live off-campus and do not submit a housing deposit will automatically be designated as off-campus for the fall.

3) In order to be considered for Le Shana Hall, your group will need to have 6 people. Groups of 5 will not be considered for Le Shana. Groups of six that are not able to make it into Le Shana will be placed in either two adjacent Weesner Village apartments or three adjacent Coffin Hall rooms.

4) Coffin Hall, one floor of Coffin Hall will be available for returning female students. There will not be any rooms in Coffin for returning male students.

Join us for the third of four peace and justice symposia this academic year. Fred Gregory will take us on a journey through his 40-plus years in international development. Hear his amazing stories, learn from his experience, and be inspired by his courage and insight. Dot Tobey will share her experience working in inner city youth ministry. Hear from a recent college graduate serving God through youth ministry.

What can be done for an American educational system teeming with unhealthy, disengaged, unprepared and stressed-out students? George Fox University’s School of Education will host a documentary, Race to Nowhere, which addresses the very question.

A showing of the film is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10, in Hoover 105. Admission is free, but please reserve a ticket at rtngeorgefoxu.eventbrite.com.

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S-AAC) will be doing a coin drive for the flooding in Pakistan that the country is still attempting to recover from.

Collectors will be going to dorms, houses, and everything in between from 7 to 9 p.m. on this Thursday, February 3.

Staff and students: With the rising gas prices and recent drier weather, more of you are biking to school. Please remember to always lock your bike with the thickest chain and lock you can buy.

If you have an expensive bike, you might want to consider bringing a less expensive bike to campus, or to store your bike elsewhere, as it is very tempting to thieves. We have had a few reports lately of stolen bikes, so please check on your bike frequently and keep it locked!

The security department also offers free bike registration at the security office. Just bring your bike over during office hours (7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday) and we can register your bike with the Newberg Police Department.

Sue O’Donnell, associate professor of psychology, will cover American Psychological Association citation and reference formatting, along with several guidelines for writing in APA style.

Those with intermediate-advance level dance experience are invited to audition to be a member of the George Fox Dance Company.

Auditions are Sunday, Feb. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Wheeler Dance Room 211 of the gym. Please be prepared for an intermediate-advance level jazz/lyrical dance class.

Pick up applications in the Wheeler Dance Room from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, and bring your application to the audition. If you are unable to make it to the dance room at this time or have any questions, please contact Mary Lane at mlane07@georgefox.edu.

A Scantron machine is available for use in the Center Street House (History and Political Science Department) during regular business hours. Feel free to come at any time during business hours. The machine is located in the kitchen area. Instructions are posted and the machine is very easy to use. Scantron forms are available for purchase in the bookstore.
