To see the May Term 2011 class offerings go to class.georgefox.edu. For “Term” select “Summer 2011”; for “Class Level” select “Traditional Undergraduate”; for “Discipline” you can either choose one or leave the default of “All.”

May Term classes have a section code of “MAY.” Our eight-week summer online classes are also available via the same navigation and have a section code of “ONL.” Registration for both is open now and must be completed by April 15.

This Saturday we will be welcoming more than 350 visitors on campus as they attend this year’s Kaleo conference. In addition to our regular students, we  also will be serving our guests lunch in our main dining room.

In order to help minimize entrance lines, we’d like to ask all our George Fox students to enter through the dishroom doors, with overflow seating available in the Cap and Gown rooms.

Peer Advisor application deadline extended to Monday, February 28th! Be  a part!  It’s not too late!  Peer Advisors lead new students during orientation and help with the First Year Seminar class.

Career Services is hosting a speaker from InternMatch on Monday, Feb. 28 in the Career Center (Stevens first floor).  Nathan Parcells will speak at 11:40a.m. and 12:40 p.m.

InternMatch offers over 3,000 west coast internships with a focus on interesting non-profit and startup positions.

As well as being able to directly recommend positions, Nathan will offer advice on how to market yourself as a student, take advantage of networking opportunities, and get creative in finding the internship that is right for you.

Student supervisors, please submit your students’ February time sheets to HR by Thursday, March 3, by 3 p.m. Please do not send them through the campus mail.

Please be sure the student’s name, ID number and cost center number is legible on each one. Total them. Sign them and be sure the students did as well. (If the student is not available to sign it this week, please send it without the signature, and HR will contact the student.) Please do not send students to HR to sign their time sheets.

Federal Work Study regulations require that students delivering their own time sheets must have them in a sealed envelope.

It’s time to place your order for stationery items with the updated GFU logo. Since only the new logo items are authorized for external use as of July 1, the replacement order will be submitted this spring to accommodate those who are off contract during the summer months and to ensure all departments have supplies on hand in the fall.

Please submit your replacement stationery orders at this link no later than March 15. The fall order may not be received until late October.

Senior Photos: Thursday, Feb. 24 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. If you are graduating and have not had your photo taken, swing by the Cap and Gown Room for a few minutes to have it taken. Snow and icy conditions are in the forecast for this week. We caution you to walk carefully on icy sidewalks and to avoid walking beneath trees whose branches may fall due to snow or high winds. Many of you will be driving home in the next few days, and we want to caution you to slow down and give lots of room between you and the car ahead of you. Please be sure to check the weather forecast and road conditions before you leave.

In case of a weather-related campus closure, we want to make sure you have the information you need.

Weather Closure Policy

On rare occasions, classes may need to be canceled and offices closed due to adverse weather conditions or for other emergency reasons.

The provost decides if conditions warrant canceling classes or closing offices for the Newberg campus and the Portland and Salem centers. (Closure decisions in Boise and Redmond are made by local administrators.)

Major considerations are road conditions, ice, utility service disruption, and how long the severe weather or emergency is likely to last. Decisions on day classes are announced by 6:15 a.m., if possible. Most decisions on evening classes are posted by 2:15 p.m..

In no circumstances should employees or students put themselves in danger in an attempt to get to campus.

Faculty: All textbook requests for May term and summer term courses are due by Tuesday, March 1. Please submit your requests online at this link.

Requests for fall 2011 will be due April 1.

The university’s International Justice Mission chapter is meeting again at 7:50 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, in the Le Shana lobby. The IJM deals in large part with the issue of sex-trafficking on both a global and local scale and what steps we can do to combat it. Two major focuses of the chapter are prayer and how we can get involved in the community.
